Here's a summary of what the job entails:
As a Data Engineer, your role focuses on the operational excellence of our Data & Analytics Platform. While development is part of the job, the primary focus is on maintaining and enhancing the platform’s reliability and scalability. You will work closely with the product teams, ensuring they have the tools and infrastructure needed to succeed.
To provide a clear insight into the team's responsibilities, we would like to divide them into 5 parts:
- Maintenance & Reliability:
- Ensure the Data & Analytics platform is highly available, performant, and secure.
- Monitor, update, and document platform operations regularly to uphold operational excellence.
- Infrastructure Management:
- Design, deploy, and manage infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform).
- Optimize cloud resources and consumption for cost efficiency.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to ensure seamless deployments.
- Data Operations:
- Support data scientists, analysts, and users by managing data availability and flow within the broader architecture.
- Ensure new data flows align with the existing infrastructure and meet business requirements.
- Platform Optimization:
- Introduce and implement innovative solutions for scalability and performance.
- Stay on top of trends in distributed systems, cloud technologies, and best practices for infrastructure management.
- Knowledge Sharing & Collaboration:
- Share expertise with the team and organization to foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement.

What’s on your CV,
While we value relevant experience, we equally value passion and drive. Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub, Azure DevOps) and deploying secure, scalable applications.
- Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform).
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and orchestration tools.
- Familiarity with cloud environments (Azure and GCP) and open-source tools like Airflow, Jupyter, and Dask.
- Programming expertise in Python and data manipulation libraries like Pandas.
- Strong problem-solving skills, a proactive attitude, and a collaborative mindset.
- English fluency is essential; knowledge of Dutch is a plus.
- Availability onsite to sync with the team in Antwerp two days a week.
You will join the data engineering team. The team devops infrastructure that makes it easy to collect and process substantial amounts of data so that the entire Mediahuis group can use action-oriented insights.
