The Market - Grid and Offshore concepts (MGO) department aids in integrating European electricity markets, managing congestion, and developing offshore market concepts and interconnectors. The Offshore & Interconnector (O&I) Concepts team within this department is pivotal in achieving Europe's offshore wind ambitions towards carbon neutrality by 2050. They design and implement offshore market mechanisms for Belgium and Europe and address regulatory and system integration issues for future offshore electricity grids.

 

The O&I team's tasks include anticipating offshore electricity grid development challenges, managing project follow-ups and stakeholder engagements, defining market designs for offshore wind development, participating in regional and European collaborations, and coordinating various market, regulatory, economic/financial, and strategic themes. They also focus on the EU and UK (post-Brexit) electricity markets.

 

Concrete deliverables where the team recently has actively contributed to are; the consultation report of the Princess Elisabeth zone, the white paper “Making Hybrid Happen” published jointly by Elia Group an Orsted on the Wind Europe conference in 2024 and the Offshore TSO Collaboration technical paper “Unlock the potential of the North Seas”

 

As an Offshore Electricity Market Project Manager, you are responsible for designing new electricity market mechanisms for offshore developments in collaboration with Belgian and international stakeholders. Active engagement with these stakeholders is a crucial part of your role. You stay informed about electricity market conditions, monitor offshore market evolutions, and are involved in regulatory and economical aspects. You develop sustainable solutions and anticipate future challenges in the energy market, particularly the large-scale integration of offshore renewable energy sources.

 

To do so, you:

  • Actively participate in, and shape, the development and analysis of future onshore and offshore network connections for the integration of the offshore wind production from a market coupling, system integration, and regulatory perspective.
  • Participate in regional or European working groups related to offshore to defend Elia's interests and needs.
  • Ensure that proposed solutions comply with regulations and are accepted by various stakeholders for which you engage on technical as well as on non-technical level.
  • Engage both internally within Elia Group, as well as externally with other European TSOs to discuss and develop solutions for the offshore challenges with the objective to influence political or regulatory level. Hereby a close assessment of the transversal impact on Elia Group is a crucial element to take into account.
  • Closely follow and anticipate market developments at both Belgian and European levels. Your conceptual skills help you visualize the future onshore and offshore grid and find solutions to these new challenges.
  • Defend Elia's interests and needs in a regional and European context, working closely with internal and external stakeholders (European Commission, ACER, ENTSO-E, power exchanges, CREG, market players, etc.). Your communication skills enable you to effectively discuss and present proposed solutions to external parties.

Your Profile
  • You hold a university degree (master's or doctorate) in a technical or economic field.
  • You have at least 5 years of work experience, preferably in the energy sector. Experience with regulatory, policy issues or financing of (utility) projects is a significant plus.
  • You are a team player, solution-oriented and pragmatic.
  • You have an interest in technical, legislative and economic themes.
  • You can build and maintain a network of contacts with key stakeholders, both within Elia and externally.
  • You work independently and responsibly, are well-organized, and can manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • You have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and can facilitate communication between experts, conveying technical themes clearly and effectively to internal and external stakeholders and decision-makers.
  • You are fluent in English and either Dutch or French and are willing to improve your language skills in Dutch or French if necessary.
