ENTSO-E is the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity. We coordinate the cross-border system operations, system development and electricity market activities of the 40 electricity transmission system operators (TSOs) which cover 36 countries. The ENTSO-E Secretariat in Brussels provides support on technical, market and policy developments for all European TSOs in their cooperation with each other, in their joint fulfilment of their legal mandates, and in the intensive interactions with EU decision-makers, regulatory agencies, associations representing network users and other stakeholders.

We are looking for a highly professional and skilled Adequacy & Market Modelling Specialist, passionate about the European electricity market and the energy transition. The Adequacy Specialist works full time at the ENTSO-E Secretariat in Brussels in the System Development section, reporting directly to the Adequacy Manager.

The Adequacy team oversees preparation of adequacy assessments, covering time frames from several months ahead (Seasonal Outlooks) to several years ahead (European Resource Adequacy Assessment-ERAA). The Adequacy activities strongly interface with several projects in the System Development section, such as Scenario Building and Ten Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP), and have substantial exposure to stakeholders, ACER, Member States and the European Commission.

In this role, you will contribute to the consistency between deliverables through the sharing of good practices and data transfer. This includes handling complex and agile workstreams, suggesting simplifications and other approaches to be used by downstream projects.

Limited travelling of 2 to 4 times per year (around 2 days each) may be required.

Your responsibilities

You will contribute to the Association work mainly in the areas of European Resource Adequacy Assessment (ERAA). Responsibilities may be subject to change depending on the evolution of priorities and projects. Key tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure a state-of-the-art Pan-European probabilistic market modelling and proactively contributing to its improvements, amongst other through automation of input/output processes.
  • Contribute to ensuring timely delivery and quality of the products, involving members and external resources. Support communication and coordination with the study team(s) and other internal ENTSO-E groups concerned by the allocated tasks.
  • Support the results analyses and their dissemination in clear and concise ways.
  • Interact with European Stakeholders, e.g., ACER and the European Commission, as required.
  • Define and document models and proactively specify needs for interfacing the models to support Data & Models in collecting high-quality data. Contribute to innovations for further improving robustness of models. Proactively look for opportunities to improve the quality of models and enhance processes.

Your profile

We are looking for someone with the following skills and abilities:

  • University degree, preferably in energy systems; Knowledge in economics is a plus.
  • 3-5 years of work experience with good knowledge of the energy sector. Good understanding of the European energy landscape from a technical, regulatory, policy and market perspective.
  • Working knowledge of simulation and/or optimization software tools (e.g., Plexos, BID, GAMS), ideally applied to electricity market modelling simulations. General knowledge in electric network modelling could be a plus.
  • Experience in management and analysis of complex datasets using such software tools as MS Excel, Python, R, or similar.
  • Team player with ability to self-prioritise and adapt to new priorities.
  • Fast learner and able to adapt easily to a continuously changing work environment. Eager to take coordination initiative and facilitate consensus.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings with competing deadlines.
  • Proactive and results-oriented attitude.
