Test Automation Engineer (Senior) – Federal Public Service Finance Brussels | Full-time | Partly Remote Start: March 2026 5 positions available Fluent in French or Dutch, with a good knowledge of EnglishWe are looking for five experienced Test Automation Engineers for a long-term assignment within the Federal Public Service Finance. You will join a large-scale, strategic IT modernization program and play a key role in safeguarding software quality for business-critical systems. ContextAs a Test Automation Engineer / Consultant, you will contribute to the redevelopment of a major federal application as part of a transition from a monolithic system to a modern microservices architecture.The environment is complex, highly regulated, and comparable to banking and accounting systems (payments, accounts, refunds, transactions).You will work closely with developers, functional analysts, and QA teams in an Agile setup and be involved in each user story from the very beginning. Working MethodIn this role, you will:Design and maintain recurring automated tests, including mockingCreate, manage, and maintain test datasetsExecute tests within the TAF environmentCollaborate continuously with analysts and developersFollow the standards and guidelines of the central QA & Control teamContribute to cross-team coordination of test automationStrong anticipation skills, flexibility, and clear communication across teams are essential.️ Project ScopeYou will participate in a strategic rewrite project covering domains such as:Accounting managementTransactions and ordersBusiness rulesInterfacesThe application landscape includes microservices, APIs, messaging, and containerized environments. Your ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, and maintain automated test solutionsClarify functional and non-functional requirementsCreate test plans and document test resultsReport on software quality to stakeholders (developers, analysts, QA, team leads, management)Contribute to test automation strategy, coverage, tooling, and architectureCoach and guide colleagues within the testing domain Required CompetenciesFunctional & Methodological (Must-have)Minimum 8 years of experience in test automationStrong experience in analyzing functional and non-functional requirementsIn-depth knowledge of test methodologies (ISTQB certification or equivalent preferred)Proven experience in Agile/Scrum environmentsExcellent communication skillsDemonstrable experience in coaching and mentoring testersTechnical (Must-have)Strong knowledge of Gherkin and Playwright or SeleniumExperience with BDD and tools such as CucumberThorough knowledge of XRAYExperience with JIRA and ConfluenceStrong programming skills, preferably JavaKnowledge of JavaScript, JSON, XML, OpenAPI, Angular, Spring Boot, HTMLExperience with API testing (Postman, SoapUI, automated via Java/Spring Boot)Solid understanding of API concepts: idempotence, versioning, pagination, error handling, DLQ, BelgifExperience with message queuing systems (ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ)Strong knowledge of databases, SQL, and test datasetsBasic knowledge of containerized environments (Kubernetes, Pods, Clusters) and tools such as GitLab, ArgoCD, Helm, Harbor, Lens Nice to HaveKnowledge of the structure and functioning of the Federal Public Service Finance Why Join?Work on a high-impact federal modernization programLong-term assignment with stabilityModern technologies and complex architectureCollaborative, cross-functional environmentOpportunity to influence test strategy and mentor others Interested or know someone who might be a good fit?
