It is also a key player in building a consumer-friendly digital and sustainable economy in Europe. Bureau Européen des Unions de Consommateurs (BEUC), the European Consumer Organisation, is an umbrella group representing consumer organizations across Europe. Founded in 1962, BEUC promotes and defends European consumers' rights by advocating for policies and legislation that improve consumer protection and well-being.
About the roleFood and Health Policy Assistant typically supports the development, implementation, and communication of policies related to food safety, nutrition, public health, and regulatory affairs. The role is often found in government agencies, NGOs, trade associations, research institutions, or advocacy organizations focused on food and health policy.
ResponsibilitiesPolicy Research & Analysis:
- Research food and health policies, regulations, and industry trends.
- Analyze legislative and regulatory developments at national and international levels.
- Prepare reports, briefings, and summaries on key policy issues.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
- Assist in coordinating with policymakers, industry representatives, public health officials, and advocacy groups.
- Draft responses to public consultations, regulatory proposals, and policy discussions.
- Help organize events, workshops, and meetings related to food and health policy.
Regulatory & Compliance Support:
- Monitor and track changes in food safety, nutrition, and health regulations.
- Support the development of position papers and recommendations for compliance with food laws.
- Assist in preparing reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Advocacy & Campaign Support:
- Assist in the development of advocacy strategies to promote healthy and sustainable food policies.
- Contribute to public awareness campaigns and educational materials on nutrition, food security, and health.
- Work on projects related to sustainable food systems, food labeling, or dietary guidelines.
Administrative & Project Support:
- Provide administrative assistance, including scheduling meetings, managing correspondence, and maintaining policy databases.
- Assist in funding applications, grants, and project coordination.
- Support internal teams in implementing food and health policy initiatives.
- Experience of 1+ year in a similar environment (NGO, EU institution, EU trade association, law firm);
- Interest in working on food and health policies;
- Ability to write and communicate well in English, and knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage;
- Working knowledge of the EU institutions and legislative process would be an advantage;
- Proven ability to understand, appreciate, and explain the technical issues that arise in the sector of food and health;
- Proven interest in understanding, appreciating, and articulating consumer interests in the food and health sector;
- Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds;
- Team player and well-organized.
- University Degree in Public Health, Law, and Politics;
