Vice President of Software Engineering

Location: EU wide but regular travel to Belgium

English speaking

Must have full responsibility for a software Engineering division on a global scale with a current team size from 250 - 1000 staff

Position Overview

Our client are seeking an experienced and visionary Vice President of Software Engineering to join their dynamic Solutions Group. This newly created role will be pivotal in enhancing efficiency, scalability, and innovation within their technology solutions, delivering impactful, client-focused software. The VP will oversee a team of 1,000 talented Software engineers (Full Stack, Front End and Back End), Product managers, Project managers, Quality Assurance engineers, Testers and Architects located across Europe Asia and LATAM, driving strategy, execution, and quality standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Must currently be 'The number 1' within a software engineering function and have a dotted line report straight in to either the CIO or CEO.
  • Experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of leadership in roles such as Director or VP of Engineering.
  • Experience building in-house solutions for client support and satisfaction.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture and best practices
  • Demonstrated success in managing geographically distributed teams across Europe.
  • Proven ability to lead large-scale projects with tight deadlines and competing priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead and manage a team of 1,000 software engineers across Europe, Asia and LATAM fostering a high-performing and collaborative environment.
  • Establish clear goals, metrics, and performance standards to optimize team productivity.
  • Mentor, recruit, and retain top engineering talent.

Strategic Direction

  • Develop and execute the software engineering strategy aligned with business objectives to drive operational efficiency and innovation.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders, including Product, Operations, and Client Success teams, to identify opportunities and translate them into technical solutions.

Technical Excellence

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure in-house solutions to support their clients.
  • Drive the development of microservices architectures, SQL databases, and robust APIs using C#, C#.NET, ASP.NET, and .NET Core. (if you're current teams are not using this tech stack then this is also fine and they will consider other technologies too)

Project Management

  • Oversee end-to-end software delivery processes, ensuring timely and high-quality outcomes.
  • Manage budgets, timelines, and resources for various engineering initiatives.

Operational Efficiency

  • Implement processes and workflows that improve efficiency, scalability, and collaboration across the team.
  • Monitor and optimize application performance, focusing on long-term maintainability and user satisfaction.

This position is based in Belgium, and requires travel to Belgium on a regular basis.
