Job Description:

The Digital Arts & Entertainment curriculum offers some of the best game development and VFX education in the world. Within the DAE curriculum, we mold students into Technical Artists that can bridge the gap between artist and developer.

DAE consists of 6 Majors (VFX, 3D Animation, Game Graphics Production, Game Development, Sound Design, and Independent Game Production), DAE Research, and the Community Team.

One of the competences of an IGP student is understanding the Flemish Game Development ecosystem and knowing the structure and language of a start-up. This is a unique context, as game development is not a typical industry.

You coach and teach students in the following skills:

  • Fundamentals of planning, scheduling, and executing game projects.
  • Best practices and tools for efficient project management.
  • Budget management and financial oversight for game development projects.
  • Effective team management and leadership skills.
  • Understanding basic investment structures and financial planning specific to indie game studios.
  • How to develop and deliver compelling pitches to publishers and investors.
  • Insights into the Belgian games industry and its unique landscape.
  • Developing long-term strategic plans for studio growth and sustainability.
  • Analyzing market trends in the gaming industry.
Profile
  • Diploma bachelor or master
Required degree and knowledge:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree
  • Good oral and written communication skills in Dutch and English.
  • C1 certificate in English or willing to obtain one
Job-specific competency profile:
  • Knowledge of the Belgian games industry and indie game development.
  • Ability to lead and manage teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration and conflict resolution.
  • Expertise in project planning, scheduling, and execution.
  • Proficiency in managing budgets and using project management tools.
  • Understanding of investment structures and financial planning.
  • Ability to develop and pitch to publishers and investors.
  • Knowledge of contract negotiation and legal considerations.
  • Ability to develop long-term strategic plans and adapt to market trends.
  • Visionary mindset to foresee and prepare for industry changes.
  • Active participation in industry events and forums.
Experience

You have experience with financing, subsidies, startups, business models, and market analysis. You have done a start-up yourself and understand the methods and pitfalls. You have a track record in the video game industry as a manager or producer. You have experience mentoring and developing junior team members.

You will be hired by contract for a fixed term from 01/09/ to 31/08/. There is a possibility that a teaching position may be arranged during the evening and/or on Saturdays. Conversion to statutory post, extension, and appointment is possible. The maximum length of seniority granted from the private sector and/or self-employment is 10 years for this position. This useful professional experience may be granted subject to the submission of the necessary supporting documents and after examination of the complete file. Where applicable, seniority may be increased by seniority from the public sector.
