Java Developer – Java Upgrade Project (Java 8 → 17/21)Industry: Insurance / Financial ServicesLocation: Antwerp (hybrid possible)Language: Dutch (mandatory)ContextFor an organisation in the insurance and financial services sector, we are looking for an experienced Java Developer to support a project-specific Java upgrade.The assignment focuses on upgrading existing enterprise applications from Java 8 to Java 17 or Java 21, ensuring stability, performance, and compliance with modern Java standards.ResponsibilitiesAnalyse existing Java 8 applications and identify upgrade impactsMigrate and refactor codebases to Java 17 or Java 21Resolve compatibility issues (libraries, frameworks, deprecated APIs)Ensure application stability through testing and bug fixingCollaborate with architects, developers, and functional teamsDocument changes and provide technical input during the upgrade processRequired Skills & ExperienceStrong hands-on experience with Java (Java 8 and higher)Proven experience with Java upgrades (8 → 17 and/or 21)Solid understanding of JVM changes, modularity, and performance improvementsExperience with enterprise Java applications (Spring, Maven/Gradle, etc.)Familiarity with testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelinesExperience in insurance, banking, or financial services is a strong plusLanguage & LocationDutch is mandatory (spoken and written)Based in or able to work in Antwerp (hybrid setup possible)
