We are supporting a leading Belgian bank on several business-critical digital initiatives. We are looking for an experienced Backend Java Developer with a good understanding of frontend technologies to join a modern, modular engineering environment.LogisticsRole: Freelance Backend Java DeveloperContract: 24 monthsLocation: Brussels (Hybrid - 2 days/week on-site)Languages: English + French or DutchStart Date: ASAP / JanuaryRate: Competitive & negotiableResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring BootContribute to greenfield and platform evolution projectsTranslate business and regulatory needs into technical solutionsApply clean code practices, TDD, and pair programmingSupport and evolve architecture using DDD and hexagonal principlesWork with CI/CD pipelines and containerized environmentsParticipate in code reviews and agile ceremoniesCollaborate with frontend teams when neededRequired Skills6+ years of backend Java experienceStrong Spring Boot expertiseExperience with Kafka or event-driven systemsSolid knowledge of REST APIs and relational databases (Oracle preferred)Experience with Docker and KubernetesFamiliarity with CI/CD, Git, GitLab, Jenkins, SonarQubeWorking knowledge of frontend technologies (Angular, React, TypeScript)Comfortable working autonomously in Agile teamsNice to HaveExperience in banking, financial services, or risk domainsExposure to legacy modernization or modularizationKnowledge of DevSecOps or security-by-designExperience in Spotify-model squadsInterested?
