The primary objective of this role is to assist the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager in maintaining and enhancing the EHS System, ensuring compliance with both internal policies and external regulations related to environmental protection and workplace health & safety.
As an EHS Specialist responsible for two locations in Belgium, the key responsibilities include:
Support & Compliance- Assist the EHS Manager in fulfilling EHS-related duties and responsibilities.
- Work closely with various departments to identify and mitigate EHS risks and hazards.
- Foster a strong EHS culture, ensuring compliance with corporate EHS standards and local regulations.
- Track, report, and escalate key EHS metrics, including near misses, accidents, and resource consumption (energy, water, and waste).
- Oversee the Environmental Management System (EMS) and ensure compliance with ISO 14001 and corporate EMS requirements.
- Serve as the primary contact for the EDC Waste Stream Plan, managing waste stream registration and timely collection.
- Support the EHS Manager in updating and enforcing waste management procedures.
- Assist in identifying and analyzing workplace hazards, accident causes, and occupational diseases.
- Perform risk assessments, contribute to contractor safety programs, and ensure safe commissioning of new equipment.
- Maintain an inventory of chemical substances and ensure compliance with safety guidelines.
- Conduct EHS tours and workplace inspections to identify safety risks and improvements.
- Support the implementation of Behavioral-Based Safety (BBS) programs.
- Ensure the proper maintenance of EHS and emergency response equipment, including first aid materials.
- Assist in rolling out the Occupational Health Program to enhance workplace well-being.
- Deliver EHS training to employees across departments on key safety and environmental aspects.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- Prevention Advisor Level II or III certification (or willingness to obtain it).
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Fluency in English (Dutch proficiency is an advantage); additional languages are a plus.
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 or other environmental management systems.
- Ability to collaborate with multicultural teams across departments.
- Strong analytical and project management skills.
- Knowledge of ergonomics and workplace safety practices.
- A team player with a customer-focused approach.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation abilities.
