Power BI Specialist

We're Hiring: Power BI Specialist Brussels / BE (On site) Long-term freelance mission Job Description We're looking for an experienced Power BI Specialist to join our team in Belgium. The selected professional will be responsible for implementing, administering, and maintaining Microsoft Power BI environments, ensuring secure, efficient, and compliant service operations across NATO's enterprise analytics landscape. Responsibilities: Power BI Platform Implementation & Configuration Deploy, configure, and harden Power BI Report Server (on-premises) and Power BI Service (cloud) according to NATO security and architecture standards. Set up and validate ADFS claims-based authentication for secure user access. Produce detailed installation and configuration documentation, supporting accreditation and change management processes. Service Operations & Administration Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for incident, problem, and change management activities in line with ITIL standards. Monitor platform performance, logs, and backups. Coordinate with infrastructure and database teams to address service and performance issues. Data Integration & Development Design and implement ETL processes using approved NATO tools. Develop complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and loading. Ensure compliance with data classification, retention, and security policies. Dashboard Design & BI Delivery Build and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards, reports, and data models supporting enterprise-level reporting needs. Validate deliverables with Business Product Owners and empower Power Users to create their own dashboards. Contribute to BI architecture standards, coding guidelines, and best practices. Knowledge Transfer & Documentation Prepare and deliver training sessions and knowledge transfer materials for NATO staff. Document platform administration and operational processes, ensuring proper handover and knowledge continuity. Participate in daily sprint reviews and retrospective meetings following an Agile delivery model. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. At least 5 years of experience implementing and managing Power BI platforms at enterprise level. Proven experience with: Power BI Report Server installation, configuration, and administration. MS SQL Server (2014+) and/or Oracle databases. ETL development and data modelling (star/snowflake schemas). ITIL-based Service Management (incident, problem, and change). Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (C1+). Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment. Desirable Experience Experience configuring Power BI Server with ADFS claims-based authentication. Familiarity with KNIME Analytics Platform. Experience developing in Java. Prior experience in international or defence-related environments (military/civilian mix). Knowledge of NATO structure, ACO, and ACT responsibilities. Benefits: Competitive remuneration package.
