Job Description: Laboratory Technician
We are looking for an enthusiastic and qualified candidate, interested in directly taking part in hit-to-lead drug discovery, who will support our molecular biophysics program. This position is located at our state-of-the-art facility in Leuven. The successful candidate will balance two roles: ensuring the day-to-day running of the laboratory as well as engaging in different research areas of the company including molecular biology, recombinant protein production and assay development. You will collaborate with a successful team of international senior scientists located in the EU and USA. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, keen attention to detail, excellent technical skills, and a passion for learning. This position will have the opportunity to become part of an exciting, startup company and make significant scientific contributions to numerous drug discovery projects.
Responsibilities:
- Manage daily laboratory operations: maintain lab organization; perform ordering and inventory of laboratory supplies, keep up-to-date chemical and reagent inventories, and serve as primary contact for vendors and equipment maintenance.
- Conduct routine experiments following established procedures. This might include recombinant protein expression, protein purification, PCR analysis etc.
- Maintain excellent written records of performed experiments, and work with colleagues to develop companywide SOPs.
- Provides input into experimental design.
- Provide support to the Protein Purification team aiding in the work-up.
- Prepare reports of completed projects for presentation to company personnel
- Train and supervise others in the laboratory.
- Oversee regulatory compliance and prepare laboratories for annual safety inspections.
- Due to Start-up environment, must show flexibility in performing principal tasks and responsibilities as projects evolve
Education and Experience:
- Postgraduate or Master's degree in the field of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Laboratory Technology, Chemistry or a similar degree that allows you to fulfil the above-mentioned tasks.
- +3 years of laboratory experience in the fields of biochemistry and/or molecular biology required.
- Experience in bacterial culture and protein purification is a plus.
- Organized with a strong work ethic and the ability to juggle different tasks.
- Able to work in a team and willing to present data to our international partners.
- Fluent in English
