The functional safety engineer will support nuclear power plant activities during the pre-planning phase, followed by design and cutting, dismantling execution, and final documentation and compliance stages. The role is highly safety-critical and requires direct work inside nuclear facilities.Job Type: Freelance Start Date: The end of January 2026 Location: Antwerp, Belgium 100% onsite. No remote working will be considered Rate: €Competitive Contract Duration: 6 Months with the possibility of extension Language RequirementsFrench – Fluent (spoken, written, and reading) essentialDutch / Flemish – Fluent (spoken, written, and reading) essentialEnglish – Desirable but not essentialKey ResponsibilitiesPerform onsite safety inspections within nuclear power plantsEnsure compliance with radiation protection requirementsVerify reactor safety systems are functioning as designed, including:Cooling systemsContainment systemsReactor shutdown systemsSupport functional and nuclear safety activities in line with regulatory standardsPrepare and review technical and safety documentation during the pre-planning phaseContribute to subsequent project phases:Design and cutting preparationDismantling executionFinal technical documentation and client complianceEnsure adherence to all client, regulatory, and nuclear safety requirementsRequired ExperienceMinimum 5 years' experience working within the nuclear power plant industryProven experience working inside nuclear facilitiesStrong background in nuclear safety, radiation protection, or functional safetyPrior experience on Belgian nuclear power plants is strongly preferredCompletion of required nuclear medical and site safety training (Belgian standards preferred)Desirable Experience: AVKRevicMicro FieldAll technical documentation will be in French and Dutch.
