For our client based in Beerse (Belgium), we are looking for a MRI Scientist to find innovative solutions for the development of MRI methods for active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), drug product in complex formulations and device functionality for drug-delivery systems.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and validate MRI methods for pharmaceutical materials, formulations, and dosage forms.
- Establish MRI workflows complementary to CT scan analysis for typical pharmaceutical applications like:
-Water ingress and hydration kinetics in tablets, capsules, gels, and complex dosage forms to understand disintegration, swelling, diffusion, and dissolution-related mechanisms.
-Coating and capsule performance, including assessment of coating integrity, permeability, delayed-release behaviour, capsule disintegration, and spatial heterogeneity of release-controlling films.
-Device functionality for drug-delivery systems where MRI can support non-destructive visualization of internal movement, fluid distribution, filling/emptying behaviour, and functional performance under relevant test conditions.
-Sedimentation and resuspendability of suspensions, depots, and dispersed systems by monitoring particle settling, phase separation, redistribution after agitation.
- Translate imaging data into actionable formulation and process insights for project teams.
- Support cross-functional studies involving formulation development, analytical development, material science, and product performance assessment.
- Build internal expertise, standard operating procedures, and fit-for-purpose data interpretation practices for MRI-based characterization.
- Potentially perform basic solid-state NMR experiments.
Must-haves:
- A minimum of master’s degree in physics, Chemistry or related field, with an affinity to complex instrumentation. A Ph.D. in one of these fields is advantageous, but not required.
- Hands-on experience with pre-clinical MRI Instrumentation is mandatory
- Experience with interpreting imaging and spectroscopic data and communicating results to a non-expert audience.
- Experience with solid state NMR is a plus
- Knowledgeable in organic chemistry is a plus
