The Department of Marketing in the Faculty of Business Economics has the following vacancy (100%- 80%): graduate teaching & research assistant in the field of Marketing.

Position

As a graduate teaching & research assistant, you will be part of the Academic Assistant Staff (Dutch: Assisterend Academisch Personeel, AAP). You will spend at least 50% of your working time preparing a PhD thesis while assisting in teaching, research, and service activities.

PhD Research Responsibilities
  • You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in the field of Marketing, developing a research proposal that aligns with departmental interests, focusing on sustainable consumer behavior in relation to food.
  • You will organise your own PhD research and report on your progress regularly.
  • You will present your findings at academic conferences and publish them in scientific journals.
  • You will contribute to attracting national and international research funding.
Education Responsibilities
  • You will take on teaching support tasks and provide high-quality academic education, including courses such as Marketing, Services Marketing, Omnichannel & Digital Marketing, Market Research, or Consumer Behavior.
  • Your teaching responsibilities will evolve in line with your experience and interests.
  • You will supervise students working on bachelor's and master's theses.
Services Responsibilities
  • You will play an active role in the academic and societal service provision of marketing, contributing to scientific and societal service activities, supporting student recruitment, and collaborating with international partners.
Profile
  • You hold a master’s degree in Applied Economics, Business Engineering, Psychology, Communication Sciences, or another relevant discipline. Final-year students are encouraged to apply, provided that the degree is obtained by the time of employment.
  • You have an excellent academic record and graduated with great distinction.
  • You have a strong interest in academic research and demonstrate the necessary (methodological) competencies.
  • Your research skills align with the faculty and university research policies.
  • Your teaching competencies align with the educational vision of the University of Antwerp.
  • You are motivated to actively take charge of your professional development.
  • You are fluent in both spoken and written English (and Dutch).
  • You are quality-oriented, honest, creative, and collaborative.
  • You are capable of working independently.
  • Experience in marketing or academic teaching and research is an asset but not a requirement.
What We Offer
  • An appointment as a graduate teaching & research assistant for a period of two years, with the possibility of renewal up to a maximum of six years.
  • Your gross monthly salary is calculated according to the pay scale for an assistant (Academic Assistant Staff, AAP).
  • Additional benefits include ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, and a bicycle allowance or full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
  • The planned start date is October 1, 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.
  • You will work at the city campus in a dynamic and stimulating environment.
