An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Software Architect to join a growing European space technology organisation developing advanced systems for demanding commercial and institutional space missions.
This is a senior technical role with responsibility for defining and maintaining software architecture across multiple projects. You will work closely with software, avionics and control engineers, establish development standards and ensure software is designed, developed and verified to the high levels of reliability required for space applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the software architecture across multiple projects and document key architectural and design decisions.
- Establish coding, code review and software testing standards across the development team.
- Make technical decisions around in-house development versus third-party software and technology.
- Review software for correctness, maintainability, quality and compliance with established standards.
- Work closely with avionics and control engineers on firmware, software and system interfaces.
- Collaborate with Product Assurance to ensure appropriate software traceability, verification evidence and tool qualification.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance and mentoring to a small software engineering team.
- Support the continued growth and development of the software engineering function.
- Present and defend software architecture and design decisions during customer and programme reviews.
- Address technical actions and review findings through to resolution.
About You
You will have significant experience in software architecture and embedded software development, ideally within the space, aerospace, defence or another safety- or mission-critical engineering environment.
You should be comfortable taking ownership of technical decisions, establishing engineering standards and working across software, firmware and hardware disciplines. Experience with software verification, requirements traceability, configuration management and formal engineering reviews would be highly beneficial.
