De nucleaire geneeskunde heeft zich de afgelopen jaren sterk ontwikkeld met de opkomst van radiotheranostiek - een techniek die gerichte diagnostiek en therapie combineert met radio-isotopen. Deze benadering biedt een veelbelovend alternatief voor de behandeling van verschillende vormen van kanker. Radiotheranostiek maakt gebruik van radio-isotopen die, wanneer ze vervallen, straling uitzenden waarmee kankercellen nauwkeurig kunnen worden gelokaliseerd en/of vernietigd. Onder deze isotopen is Actinium-225, een alfa-straler, één van de meest veelbelovende voor therapeutische toepassingen. Een van de grootste uitdagingen om deze therapie breed toegankelijk te maken, is het verzekeren van de beschikbaarheid van Actinium-225 van hoge kwaliteit in voldoende hoeveelheden. Het wordt binnen de gemeenschap vaak "het zeldzaamste medicijn ter wereld" genoemd. Door hun unieke expertise en middelen te bundelen, hebben SCK CEN en IBA het bedrijf PanTera opgericht, met als doel de grootschalige productie van Actinium-225 mogelijk te maken. In dit kader is PanTera op zoek naar een getalenteerde en ervaren Process Engineer ter ondersteuning van de ontwikkeling van sleutelonderdelen (zoals het Radon (Rn) afvangsysteem) binnen de productieketen van Actinium-225.
