Through strategic grantmaking, we partner with organizations that can deliver meaningful, durable climate outcomes across Europe. Role Summary The Grantmaking Manager/Officer will serve as the central grantmaking resource for Carbon Free Europe, responsible for ensuring the effectiveness, integrity, and impact of the organization's grant portfolio. This role combines strategic impact thinking, rigorous grant evaluation, and strong operational grantmaking practice. The role will lead on evaluating grant applications, supporting program and policy leads, and developing a coherent organizational impact narrative grounded in data and results. Working closely with grant operations, policy leads, and external partners, the Grantmaking Manager/Officer will help Catalyse Europe measure, learn from, and communicate the impact of its grantmaking. Key Responsibilities Grant Evaluation & Portfolio Management - Evaluate incoming grant proposals against strategic priorities and grantmaking criteria. - Support policy and program leads in shaping high-impact grants. - Ensure consistency and quality in grant assessments. - Monitor active grants and assess progress, risks, and outcomes. Impact, Learning & Strategy - Develop an organizational impact framework linking grants to strategy. - Build and maintain an impact narrative for the organization. - Use qualitative and quantitative data to assess effectiveness. - Identify trends and learning to strengthen grantmaking strategy. Data & Reporting - Ensure high-quality grant data collection and management. - Analyze portfolio-level data to inform decision-making. - Contribute to internal and external impact reporting. Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Engagement - Partner closely with grant operations. - Collaborate with policy leads. - Act as a point of contact for grantees on impact and reporting. - Engage with external stakeholders and peer funders as needed. Required Qualifications - Experience in grantmaking or philanthropy. - Strong understanding of impact measurement and evaluation. - Experience working with qualitative and quantitative data. - Excellent analytical and writing skills. - Strong organizational and collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications - Programmatic experience in climate, energy, or environmental policy. - Experience with European policy or civil society organizations. - Grantmaking operational experience. - Familiarity with strategic philanthropy or systems-change approaches. Reporting Line This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer (COO).
