Senior Software Engineer – Python / Django (6-Month Freelance Contract) Get AI-powered advice on this job and more exclusive features. A major European mobility and technology organisation is undergoing a significant digital transformation, modernising backend systems and building new platform capabilities. We’re looking for an experienced Python/Django Engineer to support high-impact backend development across new services, integrations, and system modernisation. Role Summary You’ll join a cross-functional engineering team to deliver a high-priority backend project using Python, Django, and related technologies. You will work on building new backend services, improving system performance, integrating with internal/external services, and contributing to the evolution of the platform’s architecture. Key Responsibilities Build, enhance, and maintain backend services using Python and Django (REST Framework experience beneficial). Develop clean, scalable REST APIs and integrate with internal and external systems. Support and maintain data access layers, business logic, and system reliability. Collaborate closely with architecture, DevOps, product, and QA teams. Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment processes. Refactor legacy components, support migration activities, and improve service performance. Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and solution design sessions. Requirements Strong commercial experience with Python , Django , and Django REST Framework. Proven background building APIs, backend services, and working with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL). Solid understanding of ORMs , asynchronous tasks (Celery or similar), and caching strategies. Comfortable with Git-based workflows, CI/CD tooling, and cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure). Good understanding of integrations, microservices, and service-based architecture. Strong debugging, performance optimisation, and problem-solving skills.
