Senior Software Engineer @ Ontoforce

The purpose of the Senior Software Engineer role at Ontoforce is to drive the optimization and scalability of the DISQOVER platform, a critical tool for empowering life sciences organizations to extract actionable insights from vast and complex datasets. As Ontoforce continues to push the boundaries of data integration and knowledge discovery, the Senior Software Engineer will play a pivotal role in re-architecting the product to handle large-scale, high-performance data processing.
In this role, the engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that DISQOVER can seamlessly process and manage knowledge graphs that may scale up to 100TB of data, enabling users to efficiently extract valuable information in real time. The focus is not just on technical execution, but also on designing solutions that make complex data analytics user-friendly and scalable. This position requires a proactive, solution-driven approach, as well as a product mindset, to ensure the platform meets the evolving needs of research-intensive customers in the life sciences industry.
Tasks and Responsibilities- Architecting for Scale: Design and build the architecture of the DISQOVER platform to handle knowledge graphs exceeding 50TB of data, ensuring it remains performant and scalable.
- Real-Time Data Updates: Implement robust systems to process and update incoming data changes with minimal latency, ensuring users always have access to the latest data in near-real-time.
- Technology Stack Optimization: Work with and extend the current technology stack, including Python, AWS, SOLR, Redis, while identifying potential scalability issues. Propose enhancements or alternative solutions to overcome these challenges.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with teams such as data scientists, frontend developers, and product managers to ensure that technical solutions align with business goals and meet user needs.
- Leveraging Modern Tools: Work with a cutting-edge stack that includes Python, AWS, Azure, Redis, Solr. You will be at the forefront of solving intricate problems and ensuring high-performance functionality for APIs and user interfaces, directly impacting user experience.
- Full Development Lifecycle: Be involved in every stage of the development process, from the initial concept and design to final implementation and testing. You will take full ownership of developing new features, ensuring they are effective, performant, and user-friendly.
- Driving Innovation: Play a pivotal role in introducing new technologies, methodologies, and processes that improve the platform. You’ll be encouraged to think creatively and challenge the status quo to keep Ontoforce at the leading edge of the industry.
- Strong experience with Python preferred.
- Experience in working in a cloud-based environment (preferably Azure / AWS).
- Familiarity with data processing, ideally in the life sciences or pharmaceutical industries, would be highly beneficial.
- Experience working in a product-focused company, with a mindset geared towards delivering value to customers over the long term.
- Proven ability to optimize and scale up existing systems, particularly in contexts where an established product needs to be enhanced for greater efficiency.
- Hands-on approach with a willingness to dive deep into code and architecture to ensure the best possible outcomes. Ontoforce is looking for someone who can work independently, take the lead on projects, and proactively identify and solve problems.
This role is suitable for both Dutch-speaking and English-speaking profiles.
