Freelance senior Project Manager (financial/banking sector)Location: BrusselsContract Type: FreelanceExperience Level: SeniorAbout the roleWe are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager with a strong background in the financial and banking sector to lead complex, high-stakes projects in a fast-paced environment. This role requires someone who thrives under pressure, communicates effectively with diverse stakeholders, and can bring structure, clarity, and momentum to large organizational initiatives.Key responsibilitiesLead end-to-end delivery of large-scale projects within financial or banking environmentsCoordinate cross-functional teams and ensure alignment across business, technical, and compliance groupsManage relationships with external stakeholders, vendors, and partners; ensure clear communication, expectation management, and issue resolutionDrive project governance, risk management, reporting, and adherence to regulatory or internal compliance requirementsMaintain project timelines, budgets, and scope, ensuring smooth execution in high-pressure contextsFacilitate decision-making and escalate obstacles appropriately while maintaining momentumApply best-practice project management methodologies (e.g., PMBOK, Prince2, Agile/Hybrid)Required experience & qualifications7+ years of project management experience, including extensive work within large organizations or enterprise-level environmentsProven track record delivering complex projects in the financial, banking, or fintech sectorsDemonstrated ability to operate confidently under pressure and manage sensitive, time-critical initiativesStrong stakeholder management skills, including engagement with senior leaders, external partners, and regulatory bodiesExcellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilitiesFamiliarity with financial industry standards, compliance requirements, and operational processesProfessional certifications (PMP, Prince2, Agile/Scrum) are a strong advantageIdeal profileHighly organized and structured, with the ability to bring clarity to complex environmentsResilient and calm under pressure, able to handle competing priorities and demanding stakeholdersA proactive leader who can anticipate risks, remove obstacles, and keep projects moving forwardComfortable working independently in a freelance capacity while integrating seamlessly into client teams
