Embedded Software Engineer – Mechatronic Systems (R&D)

We are currently partnering with an innovative engineering company based in West Flanders that is looking to strengthen its R&D team with an Embedded Software Engineer.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on the development of embedded software for complex, real-world mechatronic systems, where software, electronics, and mechanical components come together to deliver high-performance industrial solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain embedded software in C / C++
• Work on mechatronic system integration, combining software, electronics, and machine functionality
• Collaborate with cross-functional R&D teams (hardware, testing, systems engineering)
• Contribute to the full embedded development lifecycle (design, implementation, testing, validation)
• Support communication and control systems, including CAN / J1939
• Ensure code quality using version control and development tools such as Git, SVN, Azure DevOps, and Polarion
• Participate in system-level debugging and performance optimisation

Required Skills & Experience:

• Strong experience or academic background in Embedded Software Development
• Proficiency in C / C++
• Interest in or experience with mechatronic systems
• Understanding of embedded systems and hardware-software interaction
