ISS STOXX is seeking a talented and motivated Corporate Governance Custom Research Analyst to join its Custom team based in Brussels.

ISS STOXX's Custom Research team partners with clients to fully optimize their corporate governance program through governance expertise and customized deliverables.

Custom Research Analysts work as members of regional teams to help clients develop and implement customized guidelines that reflect their unique corporate governance philosophy. Using data-driven automation tools for base policy automation, the Custom Research team provides clients with customized vote recommendations based on their respective proxy voting guidelines.

As part of managing client policies, the team keeps clients informed of new market-specific trends and emerging proposals that interest the investment community, assisting clients in developing and implementing policies on these new issues.

The team provides tailored reports, including an annual custom policy matrix that captures voting instructions and procedures on proxy issues expected to appear on ballots in the upcoming year.

Additionally, policy gap analyses are conducted to identify areas in client policy that do not effectively address specific corporate governance issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Issue insightful, grounded, well-reasoned proxy vote recommendations based on client-specific proxy voting guidelines.
  2. Gather corporate governance data based on information in the company's public documents.
  3. Work with clients to update, develop, or formulate their proxy voting guidelines.
  4. Complete various client-specific projects.
  5. Research policy-related issues and support teammates in their completion of client projects.
  6. Contribute to seasonal reviews, client calls, and client-focused research reports.
  7. Engage with institutional investors and other market players.
  8. Address internal and external queries on research analyses and discuss policies and vote recommendations as appropriate.
  9. Participate in ISS STOXX's policy formulation and update efforts.
  10. Collaborate with Corporate Technology to develop, enhance, and test applications that benefit clients and the company.
  11. Work with Sales and Account Management to ensure a positive client experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master's degree in Law, Finance, Economics, or equivalent experience.
  2. Experience in corporate governance/capital markets is an asset.
  3. Strong computer literacy with excellent knowledge of MS Office.
  4. Strong analytical abilities and comfort with ambiguity.
  5. Excellent problem-solving and judgment skills.
  6. Excellent English writing and oral communication skills.
  7. Organizational skills, attention to detail, self-driven work ethic, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  8. Excellent time-management skills, able to handle high work volumes and strict deadlines, particularly during proxy voting season.
  9. Ability to work within a team-oriented environment and communicate with various internal and external parties.
  10. Willingness to work long hours and weekends primarily during peak weeks (March, April, May, June), as needed throughout the year.
  11. Good understanding of business technology and experience working with technology in an operational context.
