Trademark Officer

About the job
You will be responsible for the in-house management of all aspects of the trademark protection and defence with the support of the Trademark team, including:

• oversee all procedural aspects of our trademark registrations and maintenance in-house or with the support of external counsels

- manage trademark opposition, cancellation, litigation cases in-house or with the support of external counsels
- monitor existing and potential trademarks
- draft related legal documents and contracts

Advisory work
Support and advise the business in developing trademark strategies aligned with the business objectives, including trademark portfolio audits and optimization to improve cost efficiency

You will hence:
- advise on the trademark aspects of marketing new goods or services and their introduction into the market
- advise on the availability of new trademarks by carrying out national and international searches to see if the proposed trade mark is already in use
- advise internal clients about the countries in which to seek registration and the most cost-effective way of achieving this
- provide advice on various linked matters such as domain names, copyrights, design rights

About you

As Trademark Officer, you will be responsible for driving the in-house management of the trademark portfolio of the Etex Group and will provide strategic counselling in relation to trademarks but also domain names, copyrights, registered designs and licensing.

You will build strong connections with the multiple stakeholders in the organisation worldwide (R&D, Marketing, Product Management, IT, Management, etc.) to harvest, secure, maintain and defend the relevant IP rights globally, and to design and implement IP strategies to advance Etex's interests.

Your profile consists of:

• Qualification as a European Trademark Attorney
• Law degree
• Minimum 35 years of relevant experience
• You are fluent in English, written as well as spoken. Knowledge of Dutch, French, German and/or Spanish are assets
• You have strong communication skills, are a good listener and able to convince people
• You feel comfortable to work with internal clients which are located offsite (i.e. with frequent contacts by phone or other communication channels)
• You have a nononsense and handson attitude of working, with attention to detail
• You have the ability to analyze complex situations and give clear guidance on trademark matters to management.
• Proactive/anticipative thinker
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Attracted by the international scope of the function and the cultural differences which this may imply

You will report to the Head of the Intellectual Property Service Centre and be part of the Trademark team which consists of two Paralegals and one Assistant.
