Job description

The PSAA - MPET group has a serious ambition to cut emissions significantly in the coming years, and we want to reach the goal of being carbon neutral by 0. Investments in the port terminals are very high and port equipment has a long lifetime. Therefore, in 9 we have started to shape our long term emission reduction roadmap, under guidance of our Sustainability Manager. The primary focus is on the big tickets: the scope-1 emissions of our rolling equipment, more in particular the straddle carriers, and the scope-3 emission coming from the vessels while at berth.

Meanwhile we are setting up the next generation emission and energy reporting and we have already initiated a number of projects: the Green Straddle Carrier evaluation program (electrification, hydrogen, alternative fuels), the implementation of electrical shorepower for ships berthing at all our terminals, windmills on our terminals and the optimizations of our energy flows. Some of those projects are entering into Proof of Concept phase, and will be maturing in the coming years. To support those ambitious plans, we are looking for a sustainability engineer.

Role: Sustainability Engineer

You are a passionate Sustainability Engineer who will put his/her shoulders under the carbon reduction roadmaps and the realization of the technology demonstration program. Project management from technology evaluation to proof of concept to full scale implementation.

You will be working in close cooperation with our other sustainability team members, and technical domain experts.

The nature of your work will be very versatile. You will be coping with a multitude of technologies: hydrogen, electrification, batteries, combustion engines, ... and can oversee a multitude of disciplines: you will be dealing with technical, legal, and safety aspects and will manage the project financials for the project assigned to you. You will keep an eye on future regulations, and make suggestions to adapt the roadmap accordingly.

Your responsibilities

Together with colleagues, you will focus on:

Feasibility studies and simulations of terminal operations based on hydrogen or electrically powered equipment for different types of vehicles and terminals Mid and long term plans to realize the terminals ambitions to reduce emissions (CO2, NOX,..) Technical follow-up of different demonstration projects involving new sustainable technologies, such as testing hydrogen dual-fuel engines and new ultra-fast charge applications: implementation
and evaluation of on-site tests Overseeing the different aspects of electrical shorepower systems and its integration in the terminal: flexible connection system, electrical installation, monitoring and control Oversee all safety related aspects of demonstrators and future infrastructures Technical requirements management You work in close cooperation with your colleagues, project managers, your colleagues of the maintenance departments, with suppliers and with external engineering partners.

We are looking for a technically passionate person, with a getting-things-done mentality.

We appreciate vast work experience as an engineer in the field of energy or electrification, but we also value candidates with less experience but with the drive, knowledge and capability to grow further as a sustainable transition engineer. You are prepared to travel occasionally, as required by the projects you are working on.
