Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Political Science, Government, Public Affairs, relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience working on technology or content policy issues within industry, government, think tanks, public interest groups, relevant industry associations on challenges related to information quality or content public policy.
  • Experience working on core issues of information quality and access online, media policy, or mis/disinformation such as the EU Code of Practice on Disinformation.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Public Policy or relevant field.
  • Knowledge of Internet technologies and policy environments that surround them.
  • Ability to develop/implement creative ideas independently, and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines in a fastpaced environment.
  • Team player, respect for inclusion and collegiality, and ability to exercise good judgment in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Excellent personal, analytical/research and organizational skills, including ability to identify/gather insights, communicate effectively in person, in public settings and in writing.

The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company's engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy.

Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others' views and opinions, and distill and share the company's perspective on those issues with external stakeholders.

While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.


Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and research current and relevant emerging research, industry, and policy developments.
  • Support outreach with policymakers, industry players, academia, and key opinion formers in thoughtful dialogue, including the development of content regulations and codes of conduct related to mis
- and disinformation.

  • Develop position papers and programs to anticipate and contribute to the public debate regarding mis
- and disinformation, information quality, authoritative information, information provenance, and relevant interventions.

  • Work with Trust and Safety, Product, Engineering, and other teams across Google to advise on responsible policy and product development. Advance Google's mission and defend its values.
  • Advocate for Google externally and bring external perspectives back to inform our perception and direction. Engage directly with regulators, industry players, and key thought leaders to shape policy and political dialogue around thoughtful, responsible, and socially beneficial use of internetbased innovation.
