Duties

:

  • Supervises a staff of 312 KENNEL employees
  • Determines performance objectives and rates performance.
  • Executes recreation events, programs and services to meet the recreation needs.
  • Assists with training new personnel.
  • Provides care of all animals kept at the boarding kennel.

  • A probation period of one year may be required.
  • Successfully complete a health screening. Immunizations required as a condition of employment for the health and safety of those in the facility.
  • Possesses satisfactory completion of preemployment background checks in accordance with AR 2153, 213, to include a Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Works inside in often poorly lighted or insulated areas, and outside exposed to extreme weather conditions. Inside work often exposes animal caretakers to unpleasant odors and noises
  • Exposed to dirt, dust, and height. Subject to cuts, bruises, kicks, electric shock, bites, scratches and ticks from animals.
  • Duties involve considerable physical effort including lifting various items such as animals, feed, or supplies, occasionally weighing up to 70 pounds, bending, climbing, and working in tiring and awkward positions

Qualifications

:

  • WORK EXPERIENCE SUPERVISING SUPPORT STAFF IN GOVERNMENT RECREATION PROGRAMS. Demonstrated work experience must be equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the NF02 level.
  • Must have knowledge of wide range of recreation activities, organization and structure of military units and installation program objectives, policies, methods and procedures to plan, organize, and coordinate activities.
  • Must have work experience supervising support staff in recreation programs. Assist, guide, and motivate staff in carrying out their responsibilities.
  • Must have basic understanding of budget and supply functions in order to prepare input and justification of funding for supplies and equipment.
  • Must have knowledge of animals' characteristics, needs and behavior, and skill in observing, handling and caring for animals.
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include
- (1) planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, or evaluating community, industrial, outdoor, institutional, or other recreational program.
- (2) Instructing in the principles and techniques of recreational program planning and management.
- (3) Serving in a leadership role in the programs and activities of local, regional, and/or national recreational organizations.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION

Substitution of Education:

Completion of Undergraduate Degree with a major course of study (24 semester hours) in in general recreation, outdoor recreation, and public, urban, or community recreation.
