The Legal & Compliance department is looking for a Data Protection Officer with the prime mission of maintaining and leading the deployment of the global data protection program, to ensure that SWIFT adheres to all applicable data protection laws and is in compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
As Data Protection Officer, you will interact on a regular basis with members of Legal & Compliance and more specifically also the various privacy experts of the team, Risk Management, Information Technology, Operations, Human Resources and Audit as well as with other business leaders and senior executive management.
Your role:
- Create, promote and maintain an effective and sustainable companywide data protection program; ensuring compliance with internal company policies, procedures, data governance principles or customerfacing policies (e.g. Data Retrieval, Personal Data Protection) and with applicable laws and regulations.
- Develop and maintain internal contacts, at all levels in the company, to understand the company business and technology and promote the privacy compliance program
- Ensure proper stakeholdering within the company and coordination with other members of the Privacy Office
- Identify, investigate, and evaluate known and potential privacy risks and compliance risks across the Company; coordinate privacy vulnerability and risk assessments, present conclusions and recommendations, develop and implement corrective action strategies and plans.
- Define data privacy requirements for products, services, and projects. Pursue a Privacy by design strategy. Actively drive and followup on the implementation and evolution of privacy requirements.
- Maintain and lead a recurrent dataprocessing inventory update.
- Ensure recurrent monitoring and reporting on privacy risks and implementation of the data protection program, as appropriate.
- Create and maintain an effective communication and training program to heighten awareness of applicable rules and policies and the understanding of personal data protection requirements and respective responsibilities.
- Serve as contact person for all data protection inquiries, access rights requests, audits, from internal and external sources
- Review and actively follow up the data protection legislation globally and in particular in countries where SWIFT operates; maintain current knowledge of applicable international and local laws, accreditation standards, professional standards, ethical principles, and other privacy requirements;
- Regularly monitor advancements in information privacy technologies; this to ensure appropriate adoption and compliance with applicable laws.
- As Lead Expert in own functional area, you may represent the organization on external committees, at conferences, and in working groups or regulatory bodies.
- Master's degree in law or other relevant advanced degree
- Certified in the field of Privacy
- Expert and operational knowledge of regulations on data privacy and data protection (including GDPR, PIPL)
- At least 7 years of successful and relevant experience in addressing data privacy topics within an international financial, technical, service and/or consultancy environment
- Fluent in English
- Pragmatic and intuitive, with the ability to distill complex legal requirements into effective operational solutions, develop and implement solutions to meet today's requirements and evolve future business needs.
- Record of effective working relationship with senior executive management
- Demonstrated leadership with excellent interpersonal listening and communication skills (written and verbal), inclusive, team player, collaborative at all levels of an organization
- Able to challenge, negotiate and address opposing interests in a constructive and positive manner
- Demonstrated ability to influence on data privacy implementation
- Proven ability to work in a global and matrix organization
- Strong organizational, problemsolving, program management and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines and decide on prioritization needs
- Strong integrity and business ethics
- Focus on operational excellence and capable of working both on operational and strategic matters
- Natural servant leader with an ability to think strategically, communicate vision, inspire and drive change

Additional skills that would add value:
- Advanced knowledge of other regulations linked to data protection and privacy (such as communication monitoring laws, surveillance laws, cybersecurity laws, technology-related laws etc.) Telecommunication or other technology knowledge
