Patent Attorney

We are currently looking for a Patent Attorney to join our Intellectual Property (IP) team.

The Patent Attorney closely collaborates with scientific, clinical, BD (business development) and CMC (chemistry, manufacturing and controls) colleagues. He/she will serve as the IP business partner, engaging and coordinating with external counsel as appropriate.

In this role, the Patent Attorney will: (i) assume responsibility for providing IP counselling and advice to argenx scientists, BD, CMC and legal, among others; (ii) build and implement robust IP strategies; and (iii) handle IP related aspects of contractual agreements in collaboration with our legal team.

The Patent Attorney is responsible for all matters in the process of obtaining and maintaining a patent, including strategy and cost-effective management of the argenx patent portfolio.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

• Manage all aspects of a global IP portfolio, including conducting drafting and prosecution work, and providing IP advisory service to argenx scientists, clinical, BD, CMC and other colleagues
• Identify, draft, manage and prosecute patent filings related to R&D, clinical trials and drug formulation.
• Provide counselling and drafting support on IP aspects for a variety of transactional matters
• Perform freedomtooperate, validity, and infringement analyses
• Engage, manage and collaborate with external counsel
• Support and promote IP awareness within argenx, including providing IP awareness training to newcomers / refresher training for argenx colleagues.
• Working closely and proactively with business and Legal, Compliance & IP colleagues.

• Qualified European Patent Attorney with at least 13 years postqualification experience
• Relevant experience working in a biotech, pharma or life sciences company
• Affinity with patent law / legal procedures in EP, US and JP and passion for working in an international company
