Sandbag is a non-profit think tank which uses data analysis to build evidence-based campaigns on EU climate policy.

We focus on policies such as the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), carbon border adjustment mechanisms (CBAM) and the decarbonisation of heavy industry.

We are seeking to strengthen our analytical team on the CBAM and the EU ETS, to step up our activity in these fields

This will involve:

  • Analysing the European carbon market (EU ETS) and its price drivers;
  • Tracking and analysing climate policies affecting industry in Europe and the US;
  • Tracking emission trends in ETS sectors (power, industry, air transport and shipping) and updating our emissions forecasts;
  • Analysing the impact of voluntary corporate climate commitments;
  • Analysing quantitative impacts of the CBAM;
  • Creating relevant analyses (data analysis, writing reports or policy briefs).


This project is part of our wider involvement in EU climate policy analysis and may lead to working on connected topics as well (policy instruments such as the Renewable Energy Directive, policy initiatives linked to hydrogen, CCS etc.).

- have a completed science or economics degree;
- care passionately about fighting climate change;
- have experience of the energy market or industry sectors such as steel;
- be highly numerate and comfortable with data analysis;
- have a knack for finding information, public or private, including through networking;
- be a confident Excel user;
- have excellent writing skills in English, with precision and attention to detail;
- be able to understand technical material (legislation, research) and explain it effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences;
- be a quick learner and a self-starter, happy working under their own initiative;
- be happy working as part of a small organisation punching above its weight to achieve change;
- be located in Europe.
