GBU Peroxides R&I Process Researcher

We are looking for:


For the Global Business Unit (GBU) Peroxides of Solvay, we are looking for an experienced Organic chemist to join our R&I team.

The position is based in NOH, Brussels (Belgium) and reports to the Lab Innovation manager.

You can count on us for:

Responsibilities:

  • Develop new synthetic routes for projects based on AO and AQ processes (Solvents, Quinone chemistry, Working solution chemistry)
  • Be able to propose reasonable routes for scaleup and industrialization.
  • Be able to build a cost estimate in collaboration with engineering team
  • Design of experiments and be autonomous in results interpretation.
  • Working autonomously in a laboratory with strict respect of HSE rules
  • Ability to scaleup synthesis (up to 510 kg)
  • Work in coordination with the engineering team to troubleshoot plant issues and support the GBU Technology team (Industrial) in their activities if required;
  • Build a strong network of organic chemists (Corporate and GBUs)
  • Writing clear procedures and technical reports.
  • Bring ideas to the R&I team.

You will bring:

Qualifications:

  • PhD in organic chemistry with good knowledge in general chemistry.
  • Good knowledge of analytical techniques (NMR, IR, GC, HPLC, MS)
  • Up to 2 years of relevant experience in R&D team (University and/or Industry).
  • Teamwork spirit (collaboration with Research Teams, Technology teams, plants and universities)
  • Project management skills needed
  • Goal oriented with good problem solving skills
  • Innovation minded
  • Proactive and creative
  • Quick learner
  • Flexible and curious
  • Proficiency in English. French is a plus
