EODS Internship/Traineeship
Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. GIZ promotes complex reforms and change processes, often working under difficult conditions. Its corporate objective is to improve people's living conditions on a sustainable basis.

GIZ International Services (GIZ InS) is the company's business department offering services to international clients such as the European Commission.

The GIZ InS Office in Brussels has currently approx. 35 staff, the majority of whom is working in the implementation of EC funded projects.


In the framework of the EU project
"Election Observation and Democratic Support (EODS)", phase III, we are currently looking for an Intern/Trainee.

EODS is the capacity building project for EU Election Observation. It is funded by the European Commission.

The current EODS project has five main areas of support:

  • Strengthening the EU Election Observation Mission methodology
  • Building the capacity of EU election missions to assess the impact of social media on elections
  • Coordinating the communication strategy for EU election missions
  • Training election observation specialists in EU methodology and key election principles
  • Developing tools to support the operational aspects of EU election observation
GIZ has been implementing this project since February 2021, in a consortium with Democracy Reporting International (DRI) and Memo98.

Tasks:

Support on all the components of the project, in particular:

  • Support the Project Team with administrative and logístical matters, especially with regard to the organisation of trainings,
  • Support the Communication expert with the update of the EODS website content and the project's social media,
  • Help with the update of online public databases, including on international case law and EU election observation recommendations
  • Conduct research for the EODS, related to the aspects of election observation past practice and methodology,
  • Support with formatting/editing of reports and publications.


The above list of tasks is not exhaustive and might be complemented according to the actual needs of the project.

All tasks shall be carried out in close collaboration with the EODS Project Team.


As part of the GIZ InS election observation team, the intern can also be involved in activities related to the implementation of EU Election Observation Missions.


Requirements:

Qualifications

  • University degree in political science, law, international relations, media and communication, project management or similar.
  • Sound command of English (ability to read, write and understand complex documents) is a must; French and/or Spanish would be a strong asset.
  • Able to work effectively under time pressure and workload
  • Very good organizational skills
  • Serviceoriented attitude
  • Excellent communication skills, keen on working in a team

  • Experience with developing social media posts, including photo editing
  • Work permit for Belgium


The intern can expect to learn about election observation, gain project/office management skills and join some of the training sessions.

S/he will be expected to have research and analysis capabilities to help with project's communication and an interest in project's implementation and logistics.

We offer a paid internship contract for a period of minimum 4 months under Belgian labour law (CP Work permit for Belgium is required.
