PROFIL:

_Your profile_

  • 2+ years of experience in building and maintaining highquality data management solutions
  • Proficiency with data modelling, SQL databases (MySQL, Postgres...)
  • Experience with an scripting language like Python
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to convey complex ideas to a broad audience of different specialisations
  • Strong sense of ownership and focus on longterm usability and extensibility
  • Emphasis on exploring, experimenting, and innovating on current patterns and design
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken
  • Thorough with strong attention to detail

anywhere in the Central European Time Zone or close._

_Remuneration__:
€350/day on freelance basis_

_We are currently looking for a data scientist to join our investigations team.__ We are developing a global watchdog project with partner organisations in the environmental and human rights movements. Together we research and collect data about fossil fuel flows and infrastructure expansions around the world in support of campaigns against fossil fuels. With this material we build interactive maps and combine them with local stories from local communities around the world impacted by the fossil fuel industry._

_Position overview_

  • You will join a team of expert researchers using a combination of search engines, databases, freedom of information requests and OSINT tools. We are working on gathering data from several online resources into an integrated database that can be used for analytics, source of insights for investigative journalists, visualisations, and AIdriven pattern recognition._
  • Your daytoday responsibilities will be to:_
- harmonise the data and create a data pipeline
- optimise the interactions between spreadsheets and maps and database, so that the maps and database are automatically updated
- explore web scraping tools to create bots collecting data we might be missing
- work together with our global investigator to analyse the data and think of ways to visualise them
- think out of the box to see what additional stories lie in the data
