Senior Associate Strategic Communications

The European Climate Foundation (ECF) is a major philanthropic initiative working to help tackle the climate crisis by fostering the development of a net-zero emission society at the national, European and global level.
We support over 1000 partner organisations to carry out activities that drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement, contribute to the public debate on climate action and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world.
Position:
Corporations and the financial sector in particular have a crucial role to play in the world's efforts to address climate change.
Thus far, efforts to encourage corporate climate action have been voluntary and have not led to the necessary reductions in emissions.
Many jurisdictions are now exploring how to regulate corporate climate action in order to ensure it is successful but equally there are many actors seeking to weaken such efforts via lobbying or other means.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly driven communications professional with the ambition to make a difference and play an active role in helping speed up the low carbon transition internationally.
Key responsibilities:
- Creating and executing impactful campaigns that aim to neutralise the negative impact of corporate lobbying against climate policies including regulation in key jurisdictions such as the EU
- Building and maintaining relationships with relevant actors in the industry, finance and investor, policy, and media spheres on these topics, while leveraging a wide network of partners, and working with them to create or engage in media opportunities
- Identifying key influencers in the industry and strategising ways to get them to agree to by vocal in support of regulation
- Identifying, managing relationships and executing plans with partners in the corporate accountability landscape
- Strategising and assisting on other global campaigns particularly those at the intersection of net zero accountability and finance
- Helping create communications plans around key intervention opportunities and coordinating rapid responses on reactive media moments
Requirements:
- Strong interest in climate and the environment;
- A genuine interest in the mission and values of the ECF
- A passion to create change
- Proven experience in either journalism, advocacy, communications or campaigning especially on the financial sector
- Outstanding English language skills and proven ability to produce engaging and impactful written materials
- A quick and curious learner who asks critical questions
- A strategic thinker with proven ability to develop and implement robust communications plans
- Excellent networking and interpersonal skills
- Existing relationships with key commodities, finance, or climate correspondents is desirable especially in the EU and US (alternatively the proven ability to develop these swiftly)
- Knowledge of the climate and energy space is desirable, but proven abilities to create exciting campaigns is more relevant
- An independent selfstarter able to work on their own and as part of a remote team
- The disposition to work generously with colleagues in a hightrust global community of peers
- A commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to facing climate change

- A fulltime position with a consultant or employment contract, depending on location; contracts are for a 12month period, with the expectation of ongoing renewal each year

Flexible location - +/- 3hrs GMT preferred.
Some international travel may be required. We may be able to provide co-working spaces in some locations.
