Senior Research Fellow – Global Governance, Regulation, Innovation and the Digital Economy

Position description

We are looking for a senior expert to join the CEPS research unit on global governance, innovation, regulation and the digital economy (GRID). The GRID unit is currently active in several fields including industrial policy; global trade; trans-Atlantic relations; global and EU health governance; strategic foresight and horizon scanning; better regulation; industrial and innovation policy; digital policy including Artificial Intelligence and the future of work; supply chains and the future of the Single Market.

Key tasks

The key tasks we envisage for this position include the following:

  • Carry out high-quality and high-impact research, both independently and in teams with the other members of the GRID unit, and when appropriate with other CEPS staff;
  • Ensure a regular flow of publications, including op-eds and policy briefs, as well as regular contribution to CEPS events communication activities (including the forthcoming CEPS podcast) when related to the GRID specialisation;
  • Supervise and promote the quality of the research carried out by the GRID researchers she/he supervises;
  • Fund-raise for the GRID unit, to ensure its sustainable growth overtime. Fund-raising should entail a variety of funding sources, including on-demand projects, grants from foundations, research grants (e.g., Horizon Europe) and multi-donor task forces. It should preferably entail cross-unit research work;
  • Participate in CEPS research committee meetings, as well as in CEPS activities such as general staff meetings;
  • Achieve strong visibility in public events in Brussels and beyond, by establishing herself/himself as a reference expert in the specific domain(s) of expertise.

The selected candidate would report to the CEPS CEO. She/he may occasionally be called to join meetings of the CEPS Board of Directors, whenever research topics related to the GRID unit arise.

Your background and qualifications

  • A PhD degree or equivalent experience in a discipline relevant to the work of the GRID unit;
  • At least eight years of demonstrable working/research experience in relevant fields;
  • A track record of high-impact publications in fields related to the work of the GRID unit;
  • S/he is a recognised expert in policy and research circles in fields in which the GRID unit is active;
  • Proven record of attracting research funding from a variety of sources;
  • Proven record of outstanding English writing and presentation skills;
  • Familiarity with common software suites and tools (e.g. Microsoft Office, Salesforce, GPT-4);
  • Experience of managing a team and a vocation to raise talent.
