Position description

NEF is an association of leading European foundations dedicated to strengthening philanthropic cooperation. We fund and support civil society in its work for social inclusion, democracy and international development – at the European and global level. We aim at better and more strategic collaboration between foundations. NEF is based in Brussels, at the Philanthropy House, it currently hosts 8 philanthropic collaboratives.

Overall purpose of the role:

The Hub Coordinator (HC) cultivates high-quality relationships between NEF projects, curates a rich learning space, and fosters collaborations to advance NEF's 'cultivation hub' emerging priorities.

The purpose of the NEF Cultivation Hub is to build a connected community of projects and of practices around both NEF thematic and programmatic issues.

The NEF 'cultivation hub' advances learning through practitioner-led conversations amongst staff of NEF projects. The HC will cultivate relationships, curate a rich space for staff to connect, share and learn, and support NEF convenings. The HC also communicates the learnings inside and outside the NEF community to showcase the impact of collaborative philanthropic projects.

The Hub coordinator is a member of the NEF operations team working across different projects to ensure NEF's cultivation hub approach is well recognised. This is a new role at NEF. It comes with the ambition to strengthen NEF as 'cultivation hub'1 .

Key responsibilities of Hub Coordinator:

  • Actively identify and support learning opportunities within and across NEF projects as part of the cultivation hub's approach;
  • Stay up to date with the latest developments and experiments in the NEF projects that could contribute to strategic grant making/collaboration;
  • Engage regularly with stakeholders to understand where learning priorities for NEF cultivation hub are and design appropriate course of action (e.g. training, research, policy or strategy pieces, briefs on specific issues...);
  • Actively contribute to the sensemaking of the learning within the NEF cultivation hub;
  • Actively contribute to NEF communications by producing learning pieces, and by showcasing how through the cultivation hub NEF projects cross fertilize;
  • Contribute to strengthening our networks and our outreach (including support the preparation of internal meetings, writing of briefings, reports and minutes, updating of website);
  • Design and facilitate ad hoc convenings for connection, learning and sharing organised to enrich relevant communities of practices (thematic and programmatic issues);
  • Foster communities of practice within NEF as safe spaces for exchanges, learning and mutual support;
  • Coordinate research, stories or briefs to showcase the impact of our collaborative work.

Essential Leadership Capacities: Adaptive, communicative, centers relationships, navigates tensions, designs effective processes, shares power, tech savvy, operates with integrity, agile with groups, comfortable with ambiguity.

Qualifications

Required Experience, Capabilities, and Knowledge:

  • Experience in the social sector – 5 to 7 years' experience in communications and coordination positions in the social sector, and preferably experience in the philanthropic sector;
  • Relationship Building: Familiar with building and maintaining networks. Diplomatic and able to form, manage, and maintain positive, trusting relationships with staff members and foundation partners;
  • Communication: Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills grounded in the values of participation and collective action;
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and connective mind: Including creativity, flexibility. Open to experimentation, learning, and making adjustments along the way. Able to work independently and think creatively about synergies as well as gaps;
  • Project Management: Well organized with a proven ability to coordinate efforts across groups with attention to the "big picture" and the details. Able to manage projects with many moving parts;
  • Monitoring, evaluation and learning: Quick to recognise opportunities/ideas and make use of them by (un)learning, adapting and improving. Analysis of both successes and failures for clues to improvement and done things differently;
  • Group Facilitation: Experience designing and facilitating meetings and gatherings in person and virtually;
  • Supporting Teams: Demonstrated commitment to develop and support teams, collaborate to achieve common goals, and adapt flexibly in a context of complexity and continual change.

Our Offer:

  • A Belgian employment contract: full-time (37.5 hours per week with 3 days in the office). Possibility to work on a part-time (80%) contract;
  • A competitive monthly gross salary ranging from 3,800 to 4,300 €; annual gross from 53,000 € to 60,000 € (based on experience). This is a Belgian salary range with the 13th salary and holiday pay;
  • Additional benefits include meal vouchers, extra holidays, pension scheme, hospitalisation insurance, flexibility of working from home (up to 2 days per week) and homeworking allowance, etc.;
