You hold a PhD in mechanical engineering and have preferably more than 10 years of experience in research. A PhD in (vibro-)acoustics or machine/vehicle dynamics is a plus.You have a helicopter view on research activities in the fields of innovative acoustic materials and model-based (vibro-)acoustic testing and analysis.You have more than 5 years of experience with research project ideation, writing and execution. As a research expert within the division LMSD you will be strengthening LMSD’s expertise in model-based (vibro-)acoustic measurement techniques and innovative acoustic materials, further develop and exploit LMSD’s unique (vibro-)acoustic testing and analysis portfolio and leverage on technology demonstrators for engaging with stakeholders. In this role you will have the following responsibilities:further support and develop the research initiated by LMSD in the themes of innovative acoustic materials and model-based (vibro-)acoustic testing and analysis, seeking to bring these concepts and techniques towards technology demonstrators in view of real-life applications.actively scout for potential project and valorization leads within LMSD’s research themes, also beyond their own focus, and closely interact with LMSD ZAP and OZK in developing them into projects.coordinate the exploitation of LMSD’s (vibro-)acoustic testing and analysis portfolio within research projects, using it also to initiate new innovative research project ideas, and for setting up bilateral services.monitor LMSD’s needs in terms of (vibro-)acoustic testing and analysis, actively scout for new techniques and systems which would be valuable extensions to the current capabilities and organize the development and/or acquisition process of new assets.monitor processes and developing operational procedures regarding health, safety and environment (HSE) for the LMSD labs and testing equipment and follow up on these aspects on a department level.disseminate the research results via scientific publications and conference presentations and take up a leading role in the organisation of communication activities targeting specific stakeholders, leveraging on technology demonstrators.In line with the University’s ambition to create impact through innovation, the KU Leuven LMSD section on Mechanic/Mechatronic System Dynamics, within the department of Mechanical Engineering, Group Science, Engineering & Technology continuously strives for international leadership in engineering dynamics through excellent research, education and services. Cross-fertilization between strategic basic research, application-oriented developments and technology transfer activities is key. Being at the origin of spin-off company LMS International, now Siemens Industry Software, and serving as core group of Flanders Make, the strategic research centre for the manufacturing industry in Flanders, illustrate that industrial and societal relevance are essential drivers, along with multidisciplinary partnerships and inter-sectorial cooperation.
