U heeft een sterke internationale academische staat van dienst en een bewezen vermogen om een toonaangevend onderzoeksprogramma te ontwikkelen en te leiden, zoals blijkt uit baanbrekende publicaties in toptijdschriften op het gebied van genetica en biotechnologie, bij voorkeur op het gebied van microbiële genoombewerking. Aantoonbaar succes in het zelfstandig verwerven van onderzoeksfondsen en het managen van een onderzoeksteam is ook vereist. De kandidaat beschikt over sterke organisatorische vaardigheden en een coöperatieve houding. Een goede beheersing van het Engels is vereist. Omdat de bestuurstaal van KU Leuven Nederlands is en het bacheloronderwijs voornamelijk in het Nederlands wordt gegeven, wordt u verwacht na enkele jaren over een grondige kennis van het Nederlands te beschikken. Indien nodig, en na uw start aan de KU Leuven, kan taaltraining worden verzorgd om u de gelegenheid te geven Nederlands te leren tot het vereiste niveau.
In het Centrum voor Microbiële en Plantengenetica, departement Microbiële en Moleculaire Systemen, Faculteit Bio-ingenieurswetenschappen van de KU Leuven, is een voltijdse tenure-track professor positie in microbiële genbewerking vacant. Kandidaten dienen aangesteld zijn als groepsleider aan het VIB (Vlaams Instituut voor Biotechnologie) - KU Leuven Centrum voor Microbiologie. We zoeken naar internationaal georiënteerde kandidaten met een uitstekend onderzoeksdossier en met onderwijscompetentie binnen het domein van microbiële genbewerking, met speciale nadruk op nieuwe hoogdoorvoer bewerkingstechnologieën die het bestuderen van complexe genetica in eukaryote microbiële modelsystemen mogelijk maken. De onderzoeksafdeling bestaat uit 10 professoren actief in biologisch en biotechnologisch onderzoek. Dit omvat fundamenteel microbiologisch onderzoek naar bacteriële fysiologie en gistgenetica, evenals toegepast onderzoek in fermentatie en beheersing van bacteriële infecties en besmettingen. Bovendien werken verschillende groepen aan de ontwikkeling en toepassing van geavanceerde computationele biologische analyses. Drie groepen maken deel uit van het virtuele onderzoeksinstituut VIB. De afdeling verzorgt onderwijs in de Bachelor in de Bio-ingenieurswetenschappen en in verschillende masterprogramma's, met name de Master of Cellular and Genetic Engineering en de Master of Bioinformatics, die een groot aantal studenten aantrekken. De faculteit staat bekend om het hoge niveau van haar studenten. De kandidaat dient ook een groepsleiderpositie te bekleden of geselecteerd worden voor een groepsleiderpositie aan het VIB - KU Leuven Centrum voor Microbiologie. Het KU Leuven - VIB Centrum voor Microbiologie streeft ernaar een wereldleider te zijn op het brede terrein van de microbiologie. Het doel is 1) bijdragen aan ons begrip van microbiële fysiologie, genetica, evolutie en ecologie, zowel voor ‘goede’ als pathogene micro-organismen; 2) micro-organismen gebruiken als model om algemene biologische mechanismen te ontrafelen; 3) innovatieve technologieën ontwikkelen en 4) industriële en klinische toepassingen van micro-organismen, microbiële gemeenschappen en microbiële producten nastreven, waaronder nieuwe antibiotica, probiotica en de ontwikkeling van superieure micro-organismen en microbiële gemeenschappen voor een meer duurzame, klimaatneutrale bio-gebaseerde samenleving. Onderzoeksmiddelen worden aangeboden via het VIB-KU Leuven Centrum voor Microbiologie. Bovendien wordt u gehuisvest in een gedeelde laboratoriumruimte en hebt u toegang tot gedeelde apparatuur en kernfaciliteiten (in sommige gevallen gelden servicekosten).
Afhankelijk van uw prestaties en kwalificaties wordt u benoemd tot of vast aangesteld in een van de rangen van het senior academisch personeel: assistent-professor, universitair hoofddocent, hoogleraar of gewoon hoogleraar. In principe worden junioronderzoekers benoemd als assistent-professor op de tenure track voor een periode van 5 jaar; na deze periode en een positieve evaluatie worden ze permanent benoemd (of vast aangesteld) als universitair hoofddocent.
U werkt in Leuven, een historische, dynamische en levendige stad in het hart van België, op slechts 20 minuten van Brussel, de hoofdstad van de Europese Unie, en minder dan twee uur van Parijs, Londen en Amsterdam. Het CMPG is gevestigd op de campus kasteel Arenberg, net buiten het stadscentrum.
