You hold (or will soon have) a master’s degree in business economics or in a related discipline.You have an excellent academic record (applicants should have obtained honors at least twice for the university diplomas mentioned). You have a strong interest in academic research.A thorough methodological knowledge (including statistical techniques) is a must. Research experience is a plus.Teaching experience is a plus. You are fluent in Dutch (as you will teach in Dutch, and you will do interviews with local experts).You are fluent in English. You are independent, flexible, and have good organization skills. You are enthusiastic and eager to learn. PhD Project on management control in inter-organizational relationships:More and more companies are engaging in cooperation with other firms to gain competitive strength and long term profitability and growth. Since such inter-organizational relationships are not easy to manage, management control systems are crucial. Management control refers to diverse mechanisms the partnering firms can install (like bonus systems, budgeting practices, feedback systems, etc. included in contracts, manuals or in informal ways) to make sure all employees involved understand and strive for the overall goals of the inter-organizational collaboration. We offer a position of 2 years to engage in our current projects on management control in public private partnerships and in franchising chains. This study takes a qualitative approach, involving interviews with key experts in the field. Teaching in management accounting:The PhD student will be involved in the course Management Accounting (6 ECTS) in Kortrijk (with professor Van de Abbeele), as well as in the courses Management Accounting and Interne verslaggeving in Antwerp (with professor Cools). The department of Accounting, Finance and Insurance is a large research group spread over 4 campuses (Leuven, Antwerpen, Brussels, Kortrijk). It is a stimulating and collaborative environment, that offers expertise on many research domains, a strong international reputation and a pleasant working environment.We look for a motivated graduated master student in accounting with excellent study results, who can join us for 2 years to finish our research project on management control in inter-organizational relationships, and who enjoys teaching management accounting to students in business economics. We offer a full time position for a PhD student for two years (appointment as assistant, salary scale 43), starting in September 2024.Our PhD students form an enthusiastic group of young researchers, who get the chance to present their work at national and international conferences. We also support a research visit at a renowned university abroad for a short or longer period.
