Our client is a reputable financial services company specialising in consumer credit and insurance solutions. With a strong presence in Belgium, our client is known for its commitment to providing accessible and innovative financial products tailored to customer needs. Our client is present in 9 countries in Europe : France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia. In Belgium, they are today counting 400 employees. Job description You will report to the HR & Legal Director and will lead a team of 9 team members : 3 Legal Counsels and 6 Risk Management specialists. On managerial level, following skills and responsibilities are required to enhance this role to the fullest :
  • Being able to listen, involve each team member in decision-making, address sensitive issues while organising collective sharing moments;
  • Encouraging responsibility and initiative-taking among your team members and providing constructive feedback;
  • Uncovering your teams' talents, collectively contributing to business development, allowing them to evolve in their assigned tasks, and ensuring they enjoy their work every day;
  • Your cross-functional role requires close collaboration with various business units.
  • Translating and coordinating the company's strategy derived from the Business Execution Plan (BEP) into concrete actions for your department, respecting the company's values.
  • Ensuring the performance of your department meets predefined objectives.
  • Demonstrating managerial courage by providing positive or negative feedback when necessary.
  • Ensuring compliance with industry policies and procedures.

On operational level, you will be expected to :
  • Anticipating legal developments and risks in a rapidly changing environment to ensure adaptation and compliance of our actions and practices - Advising the company in various areas of law, primarily credit and insurance.
  • Conducting legal monitoring, analyzing legislation, case law, legal theory, and commentary, especially in Consumer Credit, Insurance Intermediation, Corporate Law, and Data Protection.
  • Anticipating regulatory changes and overseeing necessary adjustments in company practices: identifying practices subject to legal constraints and contributing to their evaluation, both theoretically and practically.
  • Ensuring the implementation of operational controls (in collaboration with Permanent Control) to ensure continued compliance with practices.
  • Representing the company with professional and public bodies and defending its interests during administrative investigations.
  • Drafting, supervising the drafting, and validating legal documents.
  • Participating in various company committees (Risk Committee, Partners Committee, Insurance Committee).
Profile The future Head of Legal should identify with following points :
  • You hold a Master's degree in Law
  • Between 5 and 10 years of experience in legal role (preferrably in financial sector but not a must).
  • You are a true leader focused on economic results and the well-being of your teams, with experience in team management
  • You have knowledge of Belgian business law, contract law, and ideally consumer credit law.
  • You have a practical approach to legal issues.
  • You possess the ability to synthesize and simplify complex matters easily.
  • You are proactive and responsive.
  • You listen to internal and external clients (lawyers, bailiffs, various entities) and are solution-oriented.
  • You communicate effectively with various stakeholders (internal and external).
  • You demonstrate openness and empathy, cultivating values of trust and respect.
  • You are proficient in both spoken and written French (FR) and Dutch (NL).
