Our client, a prominent organization in the transport and infrastructure sector, is looking for a Functional Analyst to join their real-time operations team. The role focuses on translating business requirements into detailed technical specifications for a critical incident management and traffic monitoring project.

  • Review incoming business and user requirements to ensure completeness, consistency, and technical feasibility.
  • Translate business needs into detailed functional specifications, including user stories, acceptance criteria, and system behavior.
  • Specify system-to-system integrations, including interface payloads, error handling, and non-functional performance constraints.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, and testers to maintain clarity and resolve implementation questions.
  • Maintain project documentation and support defect review and User Acceptance Testing campaigns.
  • Perform data investigations and validate business rules by directly querying systems.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in functional analysis, including the production of user stories, acceptance criteria, and business rules.
  • You possess professional experience specifying system-to-system integrations using REST APIs, SOAP APIs, JSON, and XML.
  • You bring a proven ability to write SQL queries independently for data investigation and defect qualification.
  • You have experience using Atlassian JIRA and Confluence to author and maintain technical specifications.
  • You possess knowledge of non-functional constraints such as latency, throughput, and system availability.
  • You're experienced in working within a delivery model where functional analysis is distinct from business analysis.
  • You are fluent in English at a C1 level with at least B2 level proficiency in Dutch or French.

Nice to Haves

  • Knowledge of modeling notations such as BPMN or UML.
  • Experience with API contract design using OpenAPI or Swagger.
  • Familiarity with conceptual and logical data modelling and entity-relationship analysis.
  • Participation in defect triage and test preparation within complex environments.
  • Start date: 19/10/2026.
  • Duration: Until 31/12/2027.
  • Work regime: Full-time.
  • Location: Brussels.
  • Working model: Hybrid (2 days on-site per week).
  • Contract: open to both permanent employees and freelancers.
