Introductie
For an established organization with complex sales channels and supply chain processes, we are looking for a Data Scientist with a strong focus on forecasting and inventory optimization.
You will work on advanced forecasting models, automation initiatives and machine learning solutions that directly impact demand planning, inventory allocation, product availability and overall business performance.
The assignment combines hands‑on data science, business collaboration and production implementation. You won’t just build models: you’ll help make sure they deliver measurable value in day‑to‑day operations.

Your Mission
Improve the accuracy, efficiency and scalability of forecasting and inventory optimization processes through advanced data science and machine learning.
Your Role
As a Data Scientist, you will join an established data team and collaborate closely with Data Engineers, Analysts and different business stakeholders.
The organization is further developing its modern data platform on Databricks, and you will contribute by translating complex business challenges into scalable data science solutions.
You will work closely with stakeholders across forecasting, supply chain and other commercial domains to understand their challenges, develop solutions and continuously improve their business impact.
Key Responsibilities
Forecasting & Inventory Optimization
- Develop and improve forecasting models for demand planning, sales forecasting and inventory optimization.
- Enhance existing machine learning models by introducing new predictive features and improving model performance.
- Automate forecasting processes to increase efficiency and reduce manual work.
- Develop solutions for inventory allocation, stock optimization and product availability.
- Build proactive mechanisms to identify availability gaps and replenishment opportunities.
- Improve lost‑sales analytics and translate results into actionable business insights.
- Review, optimize and maintain existing forecasting and analytics solutions.
- Deploy developed models and code into production to support live business processes.
Data Science & Analytics
- Identify relevant data science use cases together with business stakeholders and translate them into concrete solutions.
- Design and develop machine learning and statistical solutions using Python and Databricks.
- Analyze datasets of varying size and complexity.
- Translate business requirements into pragmatic, data‑driven solutions.
- Understand relationships between business processes, data flows and analytical models.
- Communicate insights clearly through visualizations and dashboards.
- Explore relevant developments in Data Science, Machine Learning, AI and Generative AI.
- Collaborate closely with technical teams as well as business stakeholders.
- Build scalable solutions that can support future business growth.
Examples of What You’ll Work On
- Optimizing existing forecasting models by integrating additional predictive features.
- Exploring AI‑assisted forecasting, reasoning and explainability.
- Improving forecasting models across different product and demand levels.
- Automating forecasts based on factors such as inventory, commercial planning and seasonal demand.
- Developing mechanisms to proactively identify future product availability gaps.
- Improving lost‑sales analytics and identifying missed commercial opportunities.

Your Profile
- Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics or a related field.
- At least 2 years of professional experience in Data Science, Machine Learning or advanced Data Analytics.
- Strong knowledge of machine learning, statistical modelling and data science techniques.
- Hands‑on experience with Python and Databricks.
- Experience developing solutions that go beyond experimentation and are implemented in a production environment.
- Familiarity with Business Intelligence and data visualization.
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on both quality and business value.
- Ability to translate business challenges into practical technical solutions.
- Pragmatic and results‑oriented: you enjoy building, testing and improving rather than staying at a purely theoretical level.
- Curious and eager to explore new approaches and technologies.
- Experience with forecasting, demand planning, supply chain or inventory optimization is a strong advantage.
