Official title: Preventieadviseur (Prevention Adviser)
Location: Hasselt (Limburg), Belgium | Employment information: Full-time (38/38), indefinite-duration contract
In this role, prevention is treated as an organised, ongoing activity rather than a stand-alone compliance exercise. The Prevention Adviser will contribute to the global prevention plan, the annual action plan and reporting under the relevant wellbeing-at-work framework. Work then continues through risk analysis, evaluation of methods and processes, and the design of safety and ergonomic responses. Contact with managers, employees, social partners and internal and external partners helps ensure that observations from the workplace can be translated into practical measures, awareness activity and improvements to procedures.
Responsibilities
- Carry out the legally required prevention actions and assignments, including preparation of the global prevention plan and annual action plan.
- Produce reporting that follows the legal framework and the Belgian Code on Well-being at Work.
- Strengthen dynamic risk management through risk analyses and reviews of work methods and processes.
- Develop measures that address safety and ergonomic considerations identified through the prevention work.
- Arrange workplace visits and investigations into incidents, then examine the causes of occupational accidents.
- Work with managers on long-term responses to the causes identified through occupational-incident analysis.
- Build awareness among managers and employees through clear communication, campaigns and training.
- Further develop the safety-management system with practical tools and guidance, while improving procedures and preventive measures with the prevention colleague and organization-control team.
- Research and assess situations, recommend improvements supporting employee wellbeing, and contribute to psychosocial-risk analyses.
Qualifications
- Applicants need a Master’s degree, or must be able to demonstrate Master’s-level reasoning through an aptitude test.
- Applicants need a Level 1 prevention-adviser diploma.
- A Level 2 prevention-adviser diploma is accepted where the candidate meets the conditions to obtain Level 1 within two years.
- Candidates must meet the general recruitment conditions.
- The vacancy is in Dutch and does not state a separate Dutch-language requirement.
- The published information states no separate driving-licence requirement and no separate work-authorisation wording.
Skills and Competencies
- Provide friendly, accessible and customer-oriented prevention support to colleagues across Stad Hasselt services.
- Work constructively with the prevention colleague and integrate smoothly with other city services.
- Build working connections with employees, social partners, directors, services and internal and external partners.
- Approach prevention issues positively and turn analysis into practical, feasible solutions.
- Communicate clearly when explaining safety, wellbeing and prevention matters to managers and employees.
- Plan and contribute to awareness activity and training that supports prevention understanding.
- Use risk analysis, incident investigation and process evaluation to develop appropriate preventive measures.
