Job Description (Technical) Vessel Superintendent

As Plouvier’s Vessel Superintendent (VSI) you are responsible for overseeing the daily technical management of our inland tanker and barge fleet. This role plays a pivotal part inmaintainingoperational excellence, ensuring safety and performance standards, and supporting crew satisfaction through strong on-site leadership and responsive technical support.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily technical operations of the fleet to ensure vessels aremaintainedto the highest standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Serve as the main technical point of contact for crew members.
  • Build andmaintainstrong, supportive relationships, ensuring crew needs are addressed swiftly to sustain high morale and retention.
  • Conduct regular site visits to barges to provide visible, hands-on leadership and troubleshooting
  • Ensure 24/7 availability to manage urgent technical issues(rotation planned within the team for after-office call handling)
  • Act swiftly to minimize downtime and ensure seamless operations.
  • Coordination of onboard audits being the one supporting the Captain onboard
  • Lead technical projects and coordinate maintenance schedules, provide onboard or remote supervision of repair execution where required
  • Ensure efficient collaboration with the Fleet Director and relevant departments.
  • Align expenditures with fleet needs and long-termgoals.

Requirements

Your profile:

  • Minimum a Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, ora relatedtechnical discipline, or equivalent by experience.
  • Proven experience in vessel maintenance and technical operations, ideally in the inland tanker or barge industry.
  • Project management capabilities with a proactive and hands-on approach.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage performance and build trust on board.
  • Availability and willingness to travelfrequentlyto operational sites.
  • Understanding ofEuropean inland maritime regulations and safety standards.
  • Fluency in English and minimum a good level of German .
