Mechanical Engineer -- wearable diagnostic equipment in Cardiac and Sleep
Today a sleep study usually means a night in a hospital bed with a couple of dozen wires glued to your head and a technician watching from the next room. We're building the version people use at home: a handful of small wireless sensors worn on the body.
To make sleep testing accessible to far more people, the next generation has to be dramatically cheaper and simpler to use, and built at high volume by our manufacturing partners in Asia.
What you'll actually work on
- Enclosures, electrode interfaces and body attachment for small wearable sensors. That covers sealing, battery integration, biocompatible materials, and attachments that stay put through a night of tossing and turning.
- Working closely with our lead electronics and firmware engineer on board outlines, antenna keep-outs, battery placement and stack height.
- Being our mechanical componentscontact with our manufacturing partners in Asia: DFM reviews, tooling kick-off, T1/T2 samples, golden samples, test fixtures. Expect a few trips to the factory lines.
- Taking Arta Holter, our disposable 30-day ECG patch, from pilot builds to volume production. That means yield, fixtures, incoming inspection, and process changes that don't break the design history file.
What we need from you
You've taken at least one product through injection-moulded tooling to series production and dealt with what went wrong. You're fluent in industry standard design programs and languages, and you can have a basic notion about schematics.
Medical device experience (ISO 13485, IEC 60601-1 etc.) is not a requirement, we will provide you that training. Someone who shipped wearables or consumer electronics and is curious about regulated work will pick it up.
Most of our teammembers collaborate in-office 2 days/week at our Leuven offices. We prefer hybrid in-office collaboration but are open to discussing alternative arrangements depending on where we find the best talent.
Who you will work with
We're a team of eight and like to keep the team as small as possible while we built on our ambition to test 1M patients annually by 2030.
We have previously developed products in this category and scaled a product and company from incubation to a market-leading position (testing 100s of thousands of patients annually), and then an acquisition by an industry leader, which we recently left to start anew.
In our small team, your drawing goes straight to the toolmaker and your decisions show up in the product. If you want to take ownership, this is the role for you.
What we offer
We pay commensurate with talent and experience, generally above-market, with outcome-driven incentives that align with our entrepreneurial journey.
