Role Description
The Characterization, Metrology and Failure Analysis Director will lead on-site teams in Leuven, overseeing advanced characterization and metrology activities for semiconductor devices and materials. This full-time role includes defining technical roadmaps, setting priorities for analytical workflows, and ensuring high-quality, timely support to R&D programs and industrial partners. The director will manage failure analysis operations, establish best practices, and drive continuous improvement of methodologies and tools. Day-to-day responsibilities include coordinating cross-functional projects, mentoring technical staff, interfacing with internal and external stakeholders, and translating program needs into robust measurement, diagnostics, and reliability strategies. The role also involves contributing to long-term technology directions, budget planning, and strategic equipment investments aligned with imec’s mission.
Qualifications
- Strong expertise in semiconductor characterization and metrology, including techniques for materials, devices, and process evaluation.
- Experience in failure analysis, root-cause investigation, and reliability assessment in advanced CMOS or related semiconductor technologies.
- Proven leadership skills, including team management, mentoring, and coordination of multidisciplinary technical groups.
- Solid background in R&D environments, with the ability to translate research and program requirements into analytical strategies and workflows.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including collaboration with industry partners and internal R&D teams.
- Ability to drive continuous improvement, implement best practices, and manage complex projects from concept to completion.
- Advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Experience with cleanroom or lab environments, and familiarity with advanced analytical equipment and data interpretation tools.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with a focus on quality, safety, and efficiency.
- Willingness to work on-site in Leuven and engage in an international, multidisciplinary setting; fluency in English is required, additional languages are an asset.
