Job Overview

UZ Brussel is a leading university hospital in the capital. As a Biotechnician, you will strengthen a dynamic team of 17 specialized technical staff responsible for troubleshooting and preventive maintenance of a broad range of medical equipment (ventilators, infusion/infusion pumps, patient monitors, defibrillators, ECG units, dialysis and laboratory equipment, etc.). You will work with the latest technologies and service tools in a patient‑centred environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct repairs and set up preventive maintenance of medical equipment.
  • Ensure functional operation and patient safety, using functional performance as the key metric.
  • Maintain and update applications or platforms related to medical equipment.
  • Lead small to medium‑sized equipment projects in collaboration with IT or Technical services.
  • Manage administrative tasks such as induction, work orders, project documents, and accreditation reporting.
  • Collaborate closely with users (nurses, physicians, laboratory staff) and provide support for complex equipment usage.
  • Follow up on interventions by external service engineers.
  • Continuously broaden knowledge of medical equipment and transfer this knowledge to colleagues.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Several years’ experience as a technician, ideally in a hospital or medical organisation.
  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics‑ICT, Electromechanics or Medical Technology.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment is a plus.
  • Broad knowledge of information systems (TCP/IP, HL‑7, Dicom).
  • Solution‑oriented mindset with a focus on the essential.
  • Strong analytical, informative and documentation skills.
  • Socially skilled and customer‑oriented.
  • Excellent Dutch; basic French; good technical English.
