MSF International
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural disasters. MSF offers assistance to people based only on need and irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation. MSF International is the legal entity that binds MSF’s 26 sections, 28 associations and 16 branch offices together. Registered in Switzerland, MSF International provides coordination, information and support to the MSF Movement, as well as implements international projects and initiatives as requested.
I. CONTEXT
MSF’s operational independence rests on its financial independence: 98 per cent of our funding comes from private sources, raised by 42 decentralised fundraising markets under the movement-wide Global Private Fundraising Strategic Framework (currently GPS 3.0, 2024–2030) and generating a private income of €2.5 billion in 2025. The International Fundraising Coordinator provides executive leadership for movement-wide fundraising coordination and chairs, as a non-voting member, the international fundraising platform (DirFund), which sets the fundraising strategy for the MSF Movement, and the Full DirFund (all fundraising directors). As a member of the International Office Leadership Team (IO-LT), the position contributes to IO direction, policy and other movement priorities, heads the International Office Fundraising Department (FR-IO), composed of 12 staff, with an annual budget of approximately €1.3 million, co-leads the International Digital Engagement Unit (IDEU, seven staff) with the International Communications Coordinator and works closely with the International Finance Coordinator, MSF’s Boards and General Directors. Moreover, the International Fundraising Coordinator represents MSF in external fora, e.g. in the International Fundraising Leadership Forum (IFLF). The role involves regular international travel.
II. PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Provides executive leadership to strategise, direct and oversee the development and execution of MSF’s global fundraising strategy and its governance across the Movement’s decentralised fundraising entities, aligning sections, offices and international platforms to secure sustainable, independent private income for MSF’s operational and organisational ambitions.
III. ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Lead the development, implementation, monitoring and course-correction of MSF’s global fundraising strategic framework (GPS) in line with MSF’s mission and movement-wide priorities, to ensure sustainable growth and diversification of private income.
- Define and steer the GPS cycle with the DirFund and fundraising directors, translating the movement’s vision into shared priorities, enablers and targets.
- Monitor and analyse global fundraising performance, income and cost alike, and initiate corrective action where targets are at risk.
- Provide thought leadership on global fundraising trends, innovation (including digital and AI-driven change) and emerging markets, shaping the movement’s response.
- Advise on the fundraising potential of new markets and programmes, on fundraising investments and on organisational design for income generation across the Movement.
