YOUR TASKS

• At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in the field of data analytics, data science, and machine learning.
• This research assignment also includes a substantial contribution to fundraising and research funding acquisition. In addition to preparing grant applications for research projects submitted to the FWO, BOF, HORIZON, and/or other funding channels, you will actively seek collaboration opportunities that enable the valorization of academic research. You will take a leading role in these activities.
• You will assist in teaching activities at the Bachelor’s or Master’s level. You will assist in and share responsibility for methodological courses such as Data Mining and Machine Learning. These courses may be taught in either Dutch or English.
• You will counsel Master’s students in their exercises, work placement and Master’s dissertation
• In addition, part of your assignment will be dedicated to internal and external service activities. For example, you will contribute to the development of the research group, deliver seminars for PhD students, co-supervise PhD students, and perform related tasks. Specific responsibilities will be determined in consultation with the senior academic staff (ZAP) team.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• You hold a doctoral degreein Applied Economic Sciences, preferably with a specialization in Business Engineering: Data Analytics.
• The degree requirement needs to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted
• You have already conducted research within the field of data science and machine learning.
• You have distinguished yourself as a promising researcher in your doctorate.
• You are profoundly interested in coaching students in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and/or Advanced Master’s programmes.
• You have an excellent command of spoken and written English and Dutch (in relation to the teaching assignment).
• You have experience in supervising master's theses.
• You may present relevant scientific publications in (inter)national peer-reviewed academic journals that are widely disseminated.
• You have experience with advanced quantitative research methods, as well as with Python, R, Git, and Linux.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

• We offer you a temporary appointment of 3 years. A second appointment of up to 3 years can follow, subject to a favourable evaluation of the first term
• Even if you have already been appointed earlier (whether or not at another university and whether or not in the same field of discipline) in a first term of up to three years, you can apply
• The second appointment does not have to be immediately connected to a first term
• Your appointment will start on15 October 2026 at the earliest
