Join us as we transform immunology and deliver medicines that help autoimmune patients get their lives back. argenx is preparing for multi-dimensional expansion to reach more patients through a rich pipeline of differentiated assets, led by VYVGART, our first-in-class neonatal Fc receptor blocker approved for the treatment of gMG, and with the potential to treat patients across dozens of severe autoimmune diseases. We are building a new kind of biotech company, one that maintains its roots as a science-based start-up and pushes our commitment to innovate across all corners of our business. We strive to inspire and grow our company, our partnerships, our science, and our people, because when we do, we deliver more for patients.
We are currently looking for a Scientist to join our dynamic R&D team in our facility in Gent/Zwijnaarde. The candidate should have a high drive to generate qualitative results through hands‑on lab work and take scientific ownership of defined discovery projects, coordinating research activities in close collaboration with other members of the project team. This all happens in a dynamic, informal and stimulating environment where you and your colleagues work to reach the set goals and co‑develop novel therapeutics to bring to patients.
Key responsibilities
- Scientific Leadership & Strategy: Take end-to-end scientific ownership of defined discovery projects by mastering target immunobiology, positioning it within the broader immunology landscape, building and adapting the experimental workplan, and driving project decisions through robust in vitro and in vivo studies in collaboration with internal and external partners.
- Data Quality & Communication: Ensure the highest standards of data integrity by planning, executing, interpreting, and reporting experiments, while critically reviewing data generated by colleagues, CROs, and collaborators. Integrate the complete data package into clear conclusions, recommendations, and next steps, and communicate key insights, risks, and trade‑offs to multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
- Collaborative Problem‑Solving & Project Delivery: Proactively engage with colleagues, external experts, and CROs to address scientific challenges, coordinate internal and external activities, maintain project timelines, and advance decision‑enabling data packages toward defined milestones and go/no‑go decisions.
- Team Development & Mentorship: Foster a collaborative team environment by organizing work, setting priorities, guiding the scientific quality and reporting of project contributors, and supporting the development of more junior colleagues, with or without formal reporting responsibility.
- Ambassador for argenx’s Immunology Innovation Program: Contribute to immunology innovation within a defined thematic area by scouting novel disease biology, promising targets, and biological insights that could lay the foundation for the next argenx molecule. Help build validation plans and make science‑based recommendations when reviewing new targets and collaborative opportunities with internal and external experts.
Profile
- PhD with a background in immunology, autoimmune/-inflammatory diseases or biological drug discovery is required. Experience in an industrial setting or with regular industry interaction is a plus. Experience with FcRn and FcγR biology as well as Fab, Fc and antibody format engineering is a plus. Motivated, pro‑active, quality‑conscious scientist with a creative and analytical mindset, eager to work in the laboratory and contribute to a dynamic, fast‑growing biotech environment.
